Hi everyone i have reading all your comments over two and a half years now ,and it has given me loads of info on my hubbys bladder cancer ,and i say thank you .My hubby is high grade and had two and a half years on bcg and camera, but just seems to have loads of infections .He was supposed to have bcg today but yet another infection,i was wondering if anyone else had been same

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the group. Sorry to hear your hubby is having recurrent infections. We know some people suffer more than others with this. I have not had BCG, so not the best to answer. As well as drinking lots of water, I have been advised over the years by many medics to drink cranberry juice to help prevent UTIs. We know it has no effect on cancer and there is no scientific proof  to say it is any good on infections, but there is a line of thought it may help. I have a glass every morning with brekky. Just the supermarket stuff, but maybe worth a try. I am sure someone will be along with more experience and better advice. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Supermarket cranberry juice may well work. However it adds up on cost and is often sweetened. between added sugar and a very acidic fruit you do need to be aware of risk to your teeth [daughter is a dentist, so I have to offer this warning] An alternative is cranberry powder capsules, which seem to work well for my OH. Put it like this, he hasn't had another UTI since having these.

    Hi 1551,
If it helps, In the past I have used Quercetin, D-Mannose as well as Saw Palmetto supplements for better bladder health. But like all supplements and vitamins, there are divided opinions on if they work or not. They are alleged to help with improving lower urinary tract symptoms in the bladder but also the urethra and prostate.  Perhaps worth looking into?

Thanks  your replies helpful Hubby gets frustrated when he gears his self up to have treatment ,and yet another infection ..its a long job isn.t it but we are upbeat and stay positive  thanks again janet x

  • Hi 1551, I usually get a UTI after my TURBT & need a few doses of antibiotics to clear it up.  Not pleasant at all.  My nurse always used to say that I have one of those bladders that just doesn't like  being messed with.  All the best x

Hi blanket thank you your reply,it is so nice to be able to get advice and opinions ..i really appreciate it ..yes think my hubby same, its just hes thinks worst every time .And also he can see finish line after two and a half years ..But that worries me slightly as i don.t think its as simple as that ...But optomistic as ever time can tell.I am truly grateful a problem shared is a problem halved ..thanks again

  • Hi 1551,I suffered from repeated infections and usually got one after a cystoscopy. The last one I got before surgery was picked up in hospital and took 3 lots of antibiotics to shift. The lab didn’t pick it up at first but eventually another urine sample grew a rarer type of streptococcus. Some people find D mannose helpful to prevent them.I’ve never tried it.You can get infections if your bladder isn’t emptying properly and residual urine sits in the bladder.I feel for your husband infections can be miserable especially when they interfere with treatment.Love Jane
