My husband was diagnosed with BC last year and went through usual treatment including BCG, in May this year he was told BCG had failed and now it's spread beyond the bladder. He's now facing palliative chemo, he seems calm but I'm terrified of the journey ahead

  • Hello and welcome to the community. Sorry to hear the BCG has not worked for your husband, but I am sur you will get lots of support here as you go forward. I hope the chemo has a positive effect. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Suzy Q 56,I’m so sorry to hear that your husband is facing palliative treatment.I hope you will find some support here.Love And best wishes.Jane

  • The same things happened to a friend of mine. Given the choice of BCG or RC, chose BCG thinking she could always have RC later, but ended up with incurable BC. It is often easier to be the patient than the carer. Best wishes to you both.

Thank you all for replying, we are due to go back next week and treatment to start at the end of the week. I feel so sad that when he went for his bladder examination in Feb they discovered he had an irregular heartbeat on the same day and couldn't do the proper bladder examination with camera and it seems they missed the regrowth at the time. It feels like a series of unfortunate events have led us to where we are now, however I really don't know with this disease if things would have turned different. He had non Hodgkin's lymphoma 18 years ago and we have been told there is a possible link between his previous illness and treatment and what we're facing now

  • My friend's late husband also had both these diseases, not sure if a link was ever suggested but it was some years ago and may not have been known...I do recommend to everyone to sign up with your local carers' association as they offer all sorts of support depending where you live. I am looking forward to a free zoom watercolour class next week, it was childishly exciting unwrapping the lovely paintbox etc sent through the post.

    best wishes, Denby
