Hi just checking in as just joined. Had first chemo 3 weeks ago tomorrow, hair starting to go now! But feeling ok otherwise .
Hi Hootiefan and welcome to the group. Hope all is going well with your chemo. It's a bit pot luck with the drugs used for bladder cancer. Hair loss is not always guaranteed with the bladder cancer chemo. Some people report hair thinning while others do not lose any. Vert rare in this group where we have complete hair loss, but it does happen now and then. Hope all goes well with you. Lots of experience here, so feel free to ask any questions or just have a chat. Best wishes.
A friend who lost most of her hair during successful treatment years ago for aggressive breast cancer told me that her hair could have been saved if she had had a cold cap. This works I understand by shrinking the blood circulation to the hair roots so that they don't get too much of the chemo. However I would hazard a guess that it could be a bit late if it is already falling out. Why not call the Macmillan nurse helpline and ask them, and ask your medical team too?
Best wishes, Denby
Hi Hootiefan, I lost my hair when I had breast cancer & absolutely loved it, no more washing, conditioning, curling, straightening, cutting, colouring, I'd had far too many bad hair days to care. But I understand that many fear this most of all, not realising that this is the least of our problems, for me anyway. There's lots of nice scarves out there, & the wigs are great & made from real hair, but it did give me a raging headache. Wishing you all the very best, bald is beautiful xxx
Just to add regarding the cold cap, I've watched many a woman sitting there shivering whilst trying to save their hair. I felt that I'd got enough going on without turning up 3 hours early for that. Plus they all appeared to still lose their hair on top, which if your wore a hat no one would know. It wasn't for me, but some people can get very creative with pins & clips & cover the thinning hair up.
Take care x
