Hi..
I don’t usually do these type of things but I feel like this will help me stay hopeful. I’ve recently been told my mother 49 has diagnosed with balder cancer stage 3/4 (haven’t confirmed the actual stage). Initially she was told that cancer hasn’t spread to outside her bladder and tumour was taking up 90% of her bladder when the biopsy taken. They were able to remove most of the tumour but still some remained in her bladder. Days later after her PET scan results came back, we’ve been told the cancer has spread outside the bladder to her lymph gland near her pelvis.
My mums health has deterated a lot in the last month. She went from walking 10,000 steps a day to in a space of weeks becoming so weak she’s unable walk. She initially was told she has abscess on her pelvis and this wasn’t linked to the cancer found in her bladder. She’s had CT, MRI & PET scans to find out what the abscess is on her pelvis as it doesn’t show any cancer cells. This is the thing that’s causing my mother great pain and not able to walk causing myself and family a lot of distress.
Doctors are still unsure of what the abscess on her pelvis is and relating it to the bladder cancer even though we’re awaiting further results back from the tests. Despite this, doctors are saying the cancer has spread to her the lymph nodes near her pelvis and even with immunotherapy it will shrink it but not remove it...eventually killing her.
Im wondering If anyone can share any light on this to help me better understand as it seems like my mother is a medical mystery which is making everything worse. Please if anyone can share a similar story or anyone they know who’s recovered from something like this to help me keep my spirits up. I just want her to be pain free as I feel completely helpless !
Hi and welcome to the community. Sorry to hear about your mum, but hopefully you will find some support here. We know that if the cancer is confined to the bladder, there can be some good outcomes. Mine was fairly advanced, but I did not have any added complications. I do not know if mum's abscess will have any bearing on her treatment. Has your mum had any sort of treatment plan in place? It is difficult when someone you love is in this position. If you feel you need to talk to anyone in person, you will find the Mac free helpline a good source of help and information. You can call on 0808 808 0000 and they will advise on anything medical or emotional. Best wishes.
