Hi. I was at my first Bladder Cancer Group at the Maggie Centre, WGH., Edinburgh today. It was a wonderful group. 9 men, two of whom were there to support their wife’s, and 6 women. Plus, two senior nurses from WGH Cancer Departments and the Group Organizer. Many questions were covered for me but one I forgot to ask, a bit of a silly one really as this doesn’t apply to men but never-the-less something I am not to sure about for myself. So here it is: for my TURBT (first one ever with an overnight stay in hospital) where my tumour will be removed and then a biopsy taken, what is the most suitable nightwear for me to take in. Nightdress or pyjamas.
Hi Mack, I doubt if you will need your own nightwear. When you have the TURBT you will be wearing a hospital gown and it stays on overnight, particularly if you wake up with a catheter which is common for first TURBT. I took a very cheap nightdress from Primark with me (had to go and buy one as I always wear pyjamas at home, never got to put it on. Brilliant you met some urology nurses and fellow BC travellers today, your hospital sounds really well organised. Hx
Same with me. Pyjamas. However I have had a hospital bag on standby for years. And I mean years. I can go back at least 15. There are M&S nightdresses in that bag but Auntie Beanie doesn’t cover. One Auntie Beanie will do the trick though..
Thank-you for your advice.
Great to hear that BC group went well. I've never been to one, but they do sound beneficial.
My experiences are the same as Hero's, I took pyjamas the first time, but never wore them. Just that sexy gown thing they give you.
I've been knocked out 10 time's since my diagnosis and I've never worn anything but the gown.
Best of luck with your TURBT.
Trevor
I suspect that's fairly standard info for anyone being admitted. I would say no need for TURBT, you will have to put on a gown anyway and can stay in that until you dress to go home. If you have a long cardigan/light robe to slip on over the top, that might be handy for going to the toilet. The hosp gowns are usually open at the back - not very good coverage when walking!
