Hi.. I had tumor removed in may followed by 6 mitomycin infusion. All.clear at the end of August. Not the most reassuring dr. No conversation just "all clear goodbye".

I'm really struggling with anxiety every time I go to pee ,just in case of finding blood again .was it just chemo keeping it at bay

Do a lot of others struggle with this type of anxiety or am I just over thinking  things and need to relax and get over things

Thanks chris

  • Hi Chris

Not the best communication from the Dr. My bleeding stopped and pain stopped after my turbt at the beginning of November. I still look out for any blood coning back. I think its just natural to do so.

Every clear pee is a good sign. Keep the chin up your never alone.

  • Hi Erbc , there are times when i am coming close to having a flexi that i am more vigilant and anxious about seeing blood in my pee. I suspect alot of us have the ‘what if ‘ thought about it. If it is causing you distress and anxiety each time, i would suggest maybe talking it through with someone. Do you have a nurse specialist ? maybe call the macmillan helpline and see if they can advise or put you intouch with someone to chat with. Do you have any further check ups or treatment ? I hope you get some peace from the anxiety. wishing you all the best

    Much love Angela x

  • Hello Ebro, sorry to heat you are experiencing anxiety even though you were given the all clear. I’m five years in since my first Turbt and tumour removal. I have had two superficial recurrences. Every time I pee, I look to see everything is well. It is natural to me now. I am a bit compulsive about information, appointments, dates etc and keep a daily diary. Every night I record the wonderful words “ clear” . Garviv

  • I think that's fairly normal. Knowing that BC is so recurrent, it's hard to put it to the back of your mind. Hopefully with time, you will become less worried. Unfortunately there is then 'scanxiety' when you go for your next check-up. Even 13 years later (post RC surgery) and deemed cured, I am still thankful when annual test results come back all OK.

  • The first time you see blood in pee it is a major shock, particularly if it looks spectacular. Once embarked on a course of treatment, one gradually becomes conditioned to the symptoms and terminology of this nasty disease. However, as others have said, the concerns do hang around.

I'm on a palliative treatment regime (i.e. symptoms are alleviated by drugs or flushing when they occur), following being signed off by Urology in 2019 after two TURBTs in 2018. Bleeding has always been my main symptom so I should be used to it. The slightest tinge of rosé still shunts my morale into a nose dive even though it happens about 25 times per year, often caused by replacement of my Foley urethral catheter. I've yet to find a way to suppress this anxiety and the anxiety means I'm always on the alert for redness in my catheter plumbing. This forum has been a tremendous help every time I need to be hauled out of these mood dips.

Well done with the 'all clear.'  Wishing you and everyone on here a good 2025 and following years.

  • Hi All

Been meaning to add my experience on this thread and how things in toilet habits have changed post diagnosis and treatment hopefully most of you will smile to yourselves and nod and think yes Ste that’s me also

so as a male spent the first 40 odd years of my life standing up to urinate but these days not as much as on at least a couple of my visits during the day I will treat myself and pee like the ladies do for a couple of reasons it does help empty the bladder more throughly I’m led to believe and gives you the opportunity to check colour etc as using a urinal does not give you the opportunity to do this if using public facilities and also it cuts down on the anxiety as god forbid there was a problem it’s not on show for others the see

I also have a sample cup sat on the bathroom windowsill which at least a couple of times a week I will get some into get it upto the light and and stare at for at least 30 seconds this has become routine for me now and just part of life but has helped keep the anxiety down I laugh to myself and just think this is extreme Ste but it’s just something that has really helped me

all the best for the new Year everyone

    Ste

  • Hi  . Have you thought of getting your own dipsticks instead of just visual inspections? I use them to keep an eye on things. Not failsafe, but can give early indications if anything is wrong. All the Best.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Even8ng Chris,

even though I’ve been told I’m all clear and the BCG is working, I have the most shocking anxiety about absolutely anything….

i check my pee all the time…

  • Hi Ste. They are called urine reagent strips. Plenty to choose from online. Cost about a tenner for a box. They can give early indications of blood  or infection. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
