Hello everyone. We are thinking about booking holidays to Lanzarote and Cyprus this year.  Does anyone have any tips or suggestions re Travel Insurance for people with Bladder Cancer? Thanks Garviv

  • Thanks Garviv

  • I did phone, I found it easier then on line. Have you got anywhere yet. We’re going to have to do it again now as just booked another holiday. Good luck x

  • Going round in circles Sue, we are hopefully Pray looking to take two holidays this year which means insurance @ £ 1300 or so. Maybe have a day out at St Annes on Sea! Garviv

  • I have used insurance through Nationwide BS (linked to account for years). When I advised them of my BC, they advised I would be covered for everything else under existing policy (£13/month & includes breakdown as well) and BC for an additional ~£130/year. Thought this was OK as its an annual worldwide policy.

  • Did you manage to get insurance, I’ll be trying it again in a month or so. Happy holidays x

  • Morning Sue, Best option will cost £660. Dare I risk a holiday and not declare cancer ???Zipper mouth

  • I would just not declare the cancer. It's not as though you are likely to have a sudden attack of BC really is it? I had it for 3 years while my previous (useless) GP misdiagnosed it. Went off on various holidays oblivious. Obviously you need cover in case you fall over and break a limb or catch a dose of food poisoning or something but with regard to BC you wouldn't want a TURBT done while you were away, or some extra doses of BCG, you'd wait till your return to sort out anything that might have flared up. Alternatively could you declare that you have had BC but don't require them to provide cover for it? Also if you are currently all clear, then you don't actually have it do you? £660 is ludicrous.  Definitely have a holiday, you deserve it! Hx

  • The thing is with not declaring the cancer is that you could render the policy null and void, and find it difficult to get insurance in the future, as all the companies share information. When you are asked medical questions when getting a quote, you would have to lie, and that’s never a good idea with insurance companies!

  • Some countries require medical cover as a condition of entry. There is of course the U.K. Government scheme also. But I would grab a holiday, if you can afford it, regardless of cost. And as long as practicable too

  • Hi Sarah, I agree lying is never a good idea but could one say that you don't require cover for the cancer?
