Anyone using Azo for BCG cystitis?

I've had 21 BCG installations and the cystitis is getting pretty bad now. Azo was highly recommended so I got some. The instructions say only take it for 2 days but from what I gather off the internet that advice is aimed at people with a UTI, not BCG cystitis sufferers - ie it's safe to go beyond the 2 days. It's pretty expensive - and there are just 12 pills in a pack. So I'm wondering how best to use it -  do people take lower dosages (eg a couple of pills when the symptoms start then no more that day) but carry on for longer than the 2 days? Or maybe take the 3x2 each day as per the instructions and ignore the 2 day max rule altogether?

  • Hi . Sorry to hear you are still having problems with cystitis. Not heard of Azo. Did a search in the group. It has been mentioned a few times by people taking it but no one has come back with any results. I hope it works for you and it will be interesting to know how you get on. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

My cystitis seems to come on in the afternoons for a few hours and then disappear, its not constant. So I've been using just one dose of 200mg of Azo (I think the generic name is Phenazopyridine) when the symptoms come on and I have to say it hasn't been that effective. I don't know if that's because I'm not taking the full dosage
