Hello, i am currently awating a cystoscopy to check for bladder cancer. I am a 46 year old female. I am looking for advice please. I have , in the past few days, started to get a warm sensation in my gential area ( similar sensation when you have a contrast dye for a CT scan) its not painful and it dosnt hurt to pee. I do have bad lower back pain at times that can be very debilitaing. I also feel very achy around lower stomach and waist. Obviously i am very concerned about it all. The reason they are calling me in for a cystoscopy is because of blood pressent in my urine for 6 weeks now. I have been off work sick for nearly 3 months with a bad back ( upper and lower) due to a spondylosis flare up..i think gp maybe thinking the fkare up is due to whatever is hoing on in my bkadder causing inflamation.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated x
Hello Jay76 and welcome to the group, although sorry to hear you may have the symptoms of bladder cancer. If it does turn out to be positive, then be aware bc can be treated successfully. Good to know you are to have a flexible cystoscopy. This is a fairly straightforward procedure and takes a few minutes. Generally painless although maybe a bit uncomfortable. You will be able to see for yourself on screen what is going on and anything abnormal will be pointed out to you. In the meantime, it is important to keep drinking plenty of water, up to 2 litres a day. This is to keep things flushed out and prevent any clotting. General painkillers can help with the pain if you can take them. Lots of us have been through this so always someone here to answer any questions. Best wishes.
Hi Jay76 . The early days of uncertainty and not knowing can be the worst. Once you know what you are dealing with, then you have something positive to focus on and take it one step at a time. Talking to family and friends is always difficult at first and as you say, others do not understand. That's where this group helps as you can talk to others who understand what you are going through. Best wishes.
Hi jay76 I also had a strange feeling when I ended my pee ..it was like a small electric sensation going through my body ..I had streaks of blood when I wiped after peeing so I went to gp ..she sent me for cystoscopy and as soon as urologist looked inside he could see something..I had to have a turbt about 7 weeks after and CIS bladder cancer was found ..I started bcg treatment about 4 weeks later and had 15 treatments over 18months with cystoscopys regularly in between treatments.. thankfully I have been clear for two and half years ..I am now having my next check in October that will be the longest time in between checks .. best of luck I hope all goes well ..I really didn't expect the urologist to find anything sinister and I was so shocked but as time goes on I have come to terms with things .. this forum has helped and supported me a lot xx love Tina
Hi Jay76,
I had similar symptoms to you and was referred to get an ultrasound and cystoscopy. I had this last Thursday.
The cystoscopy was painless and only lasted about 5 minutes. Unfotunately the Dr pointed out several tumours attached to the right side of my bladder wall.
I have been urgently referred for a ct scan and surgery.
It has all been a terrible shock and I feel as if my life has turned upside down.
I am glad like me, that you have turned to this forum. It has really helped get me through this week. The people are so kind and understand better than anyone what you are going through.
I sincerely hope your Cystoscopy goes well and that you don't have bc.
Please let us know how you get on.
Take care and best wishes
Jane xx
Thank you Jay76 It has been such a long week. I keep looking for a letter every day. I know it's only been a week, but I am getting anxious already.
I'm sure I'll feel better once treatment gets going and I know what's ahead of me.
I hope you don't have long to wait for your Cystoscopy.
The waiting to find out what's going on is awful isn't it?
Kind regards
Jane
Hello JS, the one thing that you have to get used to is the waiting. I had a biopsy done a couple of weeks ago on a red area in my bladder and was told I find the results out in a month. Personally I try to keep it at the back of my mind otherwise it can completely dominate your mind. We all of course worry with negative thoughts but I try to only deal with stages one at a time, not ideal to think too far ahead. I wish you well on your CT scan and any future surgery. Take care.
Hi Jay76,I hope you will find it helpful to be part of this friendly group. The waiting is never easy.but keeping busy helps or having an interest to take your mind off it.The cystoscopy doesn’t take long. The most important thing is to drink plenty afterwards.Regular painkillers and a hot water bottle can help if you need them but you may not. It’s not usually a painful procedure. There is plenty of advice and support here so don’t be afraid to ask questions if you need to.Let us know how you get on.Love Jane xx
