Hi all my hubby was sent to hospital on Wednesday for a cystoscope. Consultant told him he has cancer of the bladder.
He has to go get an MRI then go in and get TURPTS procedure done.
many questions
we have a holiday booked in two wks
Should we go?
Should we wait and see if he gets appointment?
should we tell insurance?
if we wait till we come back will there more damage? Impossible question to answer
what's peoples options?
Due to the cost of insurance with cancer it maybe or last holiday for a while all being well that is
Just for the record hubby isn’t sick has no other symptoms than wee bit blood in urine that I said he better go get checked out
Any opinion would be gratefully appreciated
Take care
Hi Laney1 and a warm welcome to the group. Firstly, be aware that bladder cancer can be treated successfully. Some difficult questions for you and hubby regarding a holiday. A current backlog in many hospitals, now combined with a doctors strike which could cause delays. Missing or cancelling any appointments could drop your husband further back for his TURBT. If you go away without adequate insurance, then it cold be expensive if something happens. Informing the insurance people would also cause extra expense. Bit of a dilemma for you, so it might be worth while calling the urology department for their advice. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.
Hi Laney 1 welcome to the group x I had my cystoscopy on Dec 14th and my turbt Feb 1st so roughly 7 weeks .. I had the mri scan about a month after cystoscopy...I was really worried about something showing up on the scan but when I was phoning for results couldn't get an answer ..when I went in for turbt the urologist told me all was OK with my scan Phew that made me feel better .. if I were in your shoes I would go on your holiday and try your best to enjoy and not worry too much about things ..it really won't change anything only spoil your holiday and your life if you let it ..I know it's hard and that little worrying niggle will try to pull you down but try your best to take one day at a time .. best of luck and enjoy your holiday xx by the way where are you off to ?? xx
Thank you what you say makes sense but insurance companies try every way to get out of it. Like I said he is desperate to go and isn’t sick still working full time
I first had blood in my urine three years before eventually having a big bleed and things becoming an emergency. My GP neglected to send me to Urology after I reported the problem. It is pretty common for women to experience delayed referrals, anyway I got treatment and here I am happy and healthy 5 years later. My point being things generally don’t quickly become the sort of emergency requiring an insurance claim. Your husband should be thanking you for encouraging his referral, while not an emergency nonetheless better to get any dodgy growths removed as soon as system allows. Why not phone Urology tell them about your hols and see if they can organize your TURBT for immediately you return, I’ve had 5 TURBTs and found the booking team really helpful and supportive. x
This is a message for Jane.
Sent you a personal message but it has been sent back!
Just wanted to let you know that I have just arrived home after having my cystectomy.
All went well and I’m msking really hood progress.
Just for those who don’t know me, I had 15 successful rounds of BCG but when I then went onto 6 monthly intervals between treatments another aggresive tumour appeared which was duly removed.
Biopsy showed concern and a bladder removal was recommended.
Quite a shock
But I arrived home from hospital yesterday and am managing really well. It’s not the end of the world.
I met several people who have undergone this procedure which I found really helpful cos they all looked so good.
Good luck to you all but don't be dismayed if surgery is necessary.
Happy Easter to you all.
