Having a bit of a wobble today. Iv had whatever it is removed 29th March and surgeon said was tiny, didnt look invasive and now hes looked at it again hes not even sure it is anything other than a bit of my water pipe but obviously they have to send it off to be analysed. He described it on my discharge as subtle papillary area. Im just struggling with the waiting. Im still concerned that he could be mistaken or its gonna be invasive i thought i would be ok once i knew it had been removed but today im just in a panic again
Hi Emmaj00 . The waiting is something people always find hard to deal with. If it is tiny as you say then it is unlikely to be invasive, but obviously you need your results to find out what they are dealing with. We know how difficult it is not knowing the full facts, but when your results are in and you have a clearer picture, things will get easier. Best wishes.
Hello Emmajoo
totally understand your worry, the waiting game is difficult.
My first diagnosis I was quite relaxed, however this time I'm a nervous wreck.
always remember the Drs know what they are doing and what they are seeing (they will have seen so many different stages ) but only analysis can prove either way.
Try to relax and stay calm not always that easy I know. The not knowing is the worst.
They can do miracles these days if I've learned anything over the last 3 years cancer is journey not a destination,
Keep strong and eat as much chocolate as you can x
I feel like i should be happy that he didnt seem that concerned it was anything to worry about and the fact he told me it was only a couple of mm big. I know a lot of people are told at cystoscopy that its cancer. It was the same surgeon who did my cystoscopy who did my rigid and he had said to me before the op that he would do a TURBT if he could and he told me he did remove it. Im just a worrier and think worse case every time. Xx
Hi Emmaj00, biopsies always take at least two weeks. Unfortunately you just have to wait for complete reassurance, however surgeons are pretty shrewd about what they see, I'd trust your doc and try not to stress. x
What does shrewd mean? That they are usually right? X
Yes, they see a lot of cancers, they are pretty good at spotting trouble. But in the end its always down to the biopsy.x
Yes I know they have to do a biopsy he said to me on my 1st cystoscopy because he had seen something he would have to biopsy obviously to cover his own back. Both times he has said to me from what he can see it doesnt look too suspicious and it was tiny and im assuming a rigid cystoscopy is a lot better than a flexi for examination. When he had finished he said right iv taken it away iv got a good biopsy i think now that it might actually just be part of your water pipe and i said if it is cancer would it be camera checks and he said thats what we would hope for it looks non invasive xx
The waiting is always a problem, no matter how certain the the health care professional is that there is nothing to worry about, but it is standard procedure to follow up surgery with histology. If you have any begnin tumour/growth removed it's checked. In 2019, I had my kidney removed, nothing to do with cancer, but it was still checked even though surgeon was certain there was no cancer.
Try not to read too much into a standard procedure.
I know i should try not to worry too much from what he has said it all sounds pretty positive. I know he hasnt said 100% it isnt cancer as he cant and he tried to reassure me that if it was he was pretty certain that i will be ok. Im trying to keep busy and not think about it too much. He said il be waiting 3 to 4 weeks for an outpatients appointment so iv got a while yet. Xx
