I had a worrying night last night. I've been careful to drink water, even using a phone app to remind me to guage the amount I am drinking. Yesterday, I went to the the hospital for a pre-op (for a TURBT) so on the hour drive there, one & a half hours at the hospital & an hour drive back, I didn't drink much. I managed to get near my target (2.7 litres) by guzzling for the rest of the afternoon. I've passed blood clots before - which seem to plop out after a few seconds of nothing passing. Last night though, I used the toilet & instead of peeing, just blood dribbled out. I was drinking a glass of water after every peeing session, which seemed to be on the hour every hour. This happened for the next few times, then I started dribbling out pink water. At about 4am, I peed a small clot, with a small increase in flow, then at 6am, I plopped out a big clot & flow back to normal. I've now got the colour back to very light & flow seems ok. My wife stroked my back for the entire night - she is so supportive. Apart from the feeling that the bleeding is caused by my tumour growing, how do I stop this happening, or is there nothing I can do about it? TURBT is Thursday 12th.
Hi Coojee, I am no expert but as you say, a worrying night, So as I happened to just log in, I thought any answer would be welcome. I have never read of anything you can do about an episode like this, beyond the keeping-it-flushed which you are doing. I would tend to look at it like this: in eight days they will have that tumour out. So unless you get much more bleeding, which is a call 111 thing, I would just try to distract yourself and be as rested as possible ready for next week, after your rather sleepless night.
Best wishes, Denby
Hi Coojee. On the run up to my first TURBT, I was peeing lots of blood and clots. The advice given was as you know was plenty of water to stop any blockages. If it gets to a point where you cannot pee at all, then it's off to A+E, but hopefully that won't happen. Great to know you have really good support from your wife. We know that our loved ones feel it as much as we do. Best wishes.
