Hi All. Looks like the group layout has been updated today. Might take a day or so to get used to it, but I am sure we will work it out as we go along. Best wishes.
Dear Rily, please could you try to persuade the responsible people not to keep changing things without consulting the users, before they even finish fixing the things they wrecked last time? I gave up time I didn't really want to spare then, truly trying to be constructive and do not now feel it was worth the effort. Like going to the newest post in a thread instead of the top still isn't sorted. I've never seen any indication in any post that people could not easily sort what was where, it won't be any easier splitting it up. 'A chatty catch up' speaks for itself. Today stuff is showing in bold as 'unread' which I have already read. That is downright annoying. I come on here to help and be helped, to inform and be informed. This split does not help. I have lost the will to contact 'them' direct any more, this makes me feel negative, perhaps you would be kind enough to pass this on to 'them??
Thanks sadly. Denby
Hi Denby. I am one of the worst at hating change. Been on here for nearly 8 years and have hated every update. I get comfortable and then they update things. I read most posts in other groups where this change has been rolled out and the updates have been welcomed after earlier trials. I will send a message to Admin to highlight your post. Best wishes.
Thanks Rily. I'm no technophobe. In the last couple of weeks I have taken part in zoom church, Burns Night party meal, coffee'n'chat, parish council meeting public participation, pressure group committee, family events, and used Skype. Also installed MS Teams and attended a big meeting led by no less than the county Police and Crime Commissioner. I can even work my OH's iPhone better than him sometimes, even though I have an android. Manage stuff like shifting photos from phone to pc, scanning signed original docs for return to sender, attaching things to emails etc. Not saying this to get 'ooh how clever' praise, just to emphasize the point about making only changes that are actually useful and then doing it fully competently. If someone with have-a-go attitude to IT like me finds the messing about challenging, Macmillan are going to lose many users altogether I fear. And none of us want that to happen.
Denby
HiDenby. It is amazing how technology has advanced in recent years. It is 50 years today since decimalisation was introduced. I worked for a company called NCR (National Cash Register Company ) 971. Shortly afterword's I was made redundant as every business updated and the business collapsed.. You now see on programmes like Bargain Hunt etc. Ornate cash registers going for good money. I witnessed thousands of these going for scrap every day. Best wishes.
I'm another who dislikes this latest change & doesn't feel it's of any benefit. Who decides which category for each convo? Although you can see how long ago the most recent post of each category, it's now extra clicking to visit each category in turn (if you wish to read/post) instead of having them all laid out. Perhaps some of these groups have far more variety & convos going on, which is aided by sorting. In this group, provided people are fairly clear with subject title, i think I can cope without someone else sorting them for me.
I have just noticed that the full discussions list is there if you scroll down...
Wonder if someone starts a new here thread that's also chatty & about diagnosis, will it appear in all 3 categories? What if the conversation rambles onto another topic? Wonder what feedback they got to spur these changes?
I have been on another BC forum where convos are classified by the person posting them. You can choose to filter or see the whole list. It was a way of making the light hearted, jokey, convos clearly separate from others, for those who didn't appreciate the humour. Or eg treatment specific. That worked OK.
Good question about categorisation. It's got to either be some form of Artificial Intelligence based on keywords or crazily labour intensive, neither sounds great to me. At least I haven't had that domestic violence popup lately...Poster-classifies sounds entirely sensible. As I said first off 'A chatty catch up' does speak for itself, no one needs to read it if they only want strict bc stuff.
