Hi All. This sort of thread happens in other groups and works quite well so I thought I would give it a go here, especially now some people are shielding and isolating again. Just general chat away from the usual medical things where people can just talk.
So, I went out for a quick pint earlier to Wethers for the first time since the local restrictions came in to force this week. Greeted at the door and had to give details. Asked if I wanted a drinking table or an eating one. Drinking, of course. The eating section, you had to have table service only. I was taken to a single table. The drinking tables, you order at the bar and then drinks are brought to your table. Last orders 9.30 and all out by 10. All very organised and for someone who likes their own company it suited me fine. I was hoping to hear a nostalgic bell and the shout of "Last orders Ladies and Gentleman please", but it was all a very sedate leaving. Best wishes
We didn’t own a tv so I grew up listening to the Navy Lark,Round the Horne and the Goon Show, happy times.I remember a lot of radio programmes from the early 60’s.On one edition of top of the form they asked why canaries were used in coal mines. There was a long pause and a small voice said ‘were they used to pull the carts’
Loved Life with the Lyons too. I listen to same these days Wilbert and also the Archers. When I was a kid we used to listen to the Archers after supper while my parents had a cup of tea. It came on at 6.45 in those days.
I loved the Clitheroe Kid as well and also in more recent years ‘Just a minute’. So sad when Nicholas
Parsons died but I believe it’s coming back with guest presenters but it won’t be the same.
I’m an Archers fan too although it was pretty dreary when it started up again after the first lockdown with all the monologues. X
Mum & Dad used to listen to the Archers. That's why the @#&* tune is ingrained in my mind.
Listen with Mother in the early 60s before I started in infants school. Used to listen to it with my Nan.
What about the light programme? and the decadent Radio Luxembourg listening on my small transistor radio under the bed covers. Always poor reception. Happy, innocent days
