A Chatty Catch Up.

Hi All. This sort of thread happens in other groups and works quite well so I thought I would give it a go here, especially now some people are shielding and isolating again. Just general chat away from the usual medical things where people can just talk.

So, I went out for a quick pint earlier to Wethers for the first time since the local restrictions came in to force this week. Greeted at the door and had to give details. Asked if I wanted a drinking table or an eating one. Drinking, of course. The eating section, you had to have table service only. I was taken to a single table. The drinking tables, you order at the bar and then drinks are brought to your table. Last orders 9.30 and all out by 10. All very organised and for someone who likes their own company it suited me fine. I was hoping to hear a nostalgic bell and the shout of "Last orders Ladies and Gentleman please", but it was all a very sedate leaving. Best wishes

  • We had choir rehearsal yesterday evening, during which a Primary School headteacher received a call to say one of his teachers was going to be off for 14 days to self isolate. So that will cost for cover - sounds like running a small school is a nightmare at the moment. We enjoyed singing, but it was rather chilly with windows & doors open.

  • Oh how I love this type of thread.  Not done much really seeing as we're not allowed to leave town.  I keep looking at holidayhypermarket Flushed. Yesterday I went to my new hospital as a new patient, it was so lovely compared to the one I used to go to.  Just sitting here in the sun enjoying it.

  • Hello Rily, Teasswill, Blanket et al. Greetings from sunny Walton Le Dale. Enjoying a peaceful day. Walked the old chocolate Labrador this morning in sunshine and fog. Our little baby girl is 44 today so going round to give her cards and presents before I go off for 9 holes of golf. The storm is due tomorrow so no golf back to staring at the rain running down the conservatory windows. Planning to go to York next week for 2/3 nights to celebrate the wife’s birthday. Covid and lockdowns permitting. Garviv

  • Hi Blanket...Hooray you got to the new hospital!!! What's the next step for you? Will you get a new CNS? Sooo pleased you like the first impression. xxx

  • Not much sun here today - shame, as I wanted to do some gardening. In the meantime I have a new computer to play on & have ordered a new vacuum cleaner. Such excitement!

  • And wondering if CB is keeping busy, haven't seen him around here lately. It's good to hear everyone's news of life in other parts of the country.

  • I have missed hearing from CB too.

  • I think we should start a petition to find old Crusty Bladder. Think he was having a bit of a strop with the new site and associated technologies. Garviv

  • Agree, where is CB??? quite understand the strop.

Useful fact of the day: 70 people in every 1,000 [yes 7% if you prefer] have one or both [as in, from each parent] dud genes for making the liver enzymes needed to process [metabolize] many common medications including painkillers such as Codeine sulphate and antidepressants such as Fluoxetine [Prozac].

If you happen to be one of these people you are likely to experience side effects and little or no "intended therapeutic benefit" ie they will not work or not very well.

Useless fact: hardly anyone in the NHS knows about this therefore you can get abused by a nurse for being 'a drama queen' because you are still in extreme pain after taking the pills issued.

Worth knowing: maybe 1 in 50 of the population [definitely 1 in 68 at least] is on the autistic spectrum inc. Aspergers. Not 7% but half approx of these people also have the problem with medication described above.

These are the things you pick up from well informed Aspies when your dearly beloved is in hospital having all but lost his leg to sepsis in the knee. Saved but will never bend again, metal inserts cannot be altered.

Might feel more chatty after getting that off my chest. But seriously it's a lot of people presumably including a good few BC people.

Oh yes, feel -good; eating homegrown potatoes I lifted and sharing some with the family. And going into pet shop and just watching the fancy rats playing and snoozing. More universally popular, followed that with a huge 'Hotel Chocolat' mocha coffee and toasted teacake in the garden centre cafe, plenty of social distance and assiduous track n trace recording.

Do your best to find ways to stay sane and ward off loneliness dear All,

    Denby

  • Hi Denby

That fact about Aspergers and painkillers is fascinating. That goes some way to explain why common painkillers do nothing for me.

I only had a diagnosis of Aspergers about 8 months ago when being treated for PTSD. The therapist realised I had a lot of ASD indicators as well and I was subsequently diagnosed with Aspergers at the age of 63.

Finding that out made sense of a lot of things that happened when I was younger, such as being put on anti-depressant at 12 for 'behavioural problems', virtually unheard of in the 60s
