Saw my radiologist Thursday. Said he would arrange a CT scan within a week. Had a phone call in the afternoon offering a scan next morning. I will have 5 sessions of radiotherapy. Wednesday,. Thursday and Friday then Monday and Tuesday. Side effects were explained. I just wait and deal with things when they happen. High success rate for the treatment, so good news.

It should greatly reduce the blood in my urine.

Has anyone else had radiotherapy for bladder cancer?

The scan may also give some insight into the pain in my left hip.

  • Hi Richard. I had 6 weeks of daily radiotherapy. Treatment is painless and I did not have any side effects during treatment. My bowels were a bit dodgy for a few weeks after treatment finished, but gradually got better. Fatigue is one of the most common effects. Again, for me this kicked in a few weeks following treatment, but got less and less as the days passed. My treatment was several years ago now and, touch wood, I have been ok since. Hope they sort your hip out. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hello  Richard

Like Rily I had 32 sessions of radiotherapy in 2018 when I was 68 years old. Radiotherapy is painless and once you get over the initial trepidation regarding the machinery it is a relatively easy process to undertake. The radiotherapy staff are wonderful and reassuring. The treatment usually takes about 20 minutes per session. Undress, put on gown and have treatment, get dressed again. I felt well throughout the sessions but having to drive to Hospital- 20 minutes, park the car ( free at that time) walk to the cancer centre, book in at reception, wait and have treatment and return to the car and drive home took just under 2 hours every day. This alone was slightly tiring and tedious. I also had three sessions of chemo radiotherapy which involved having a slow trickle of chemo drugs through a cannula over a 5 day period. Having the bottle and cannula attached was tiring. But hey ho it worked. During treatment when I was not attached to the cannula I was walking the chocolate Labrador and playing golf mostly 9 holes.

I kept thinking Richard the radiotherapy was killing the cancer which made the process bearable and funnily enough I got to looking forward to the sessions to kill the rotten cancer.

    Good luck Garviv
