Radiation Damage

Hi Everyone

My husband had his delayed cystoscopy yesterday. No cancer thank goodness but the radiation damage continues to worsen. He is up every 2 hours in the night & some blood in urine. They confirmed there is no infection although added he has a kidney stone in the bladder.

I wasn't allowed in understandably, but he tends not to ask lots of questions & told me he just has to live with it. Does anyone have any experience of this and is there anything we could be doing to improve matters?

He certainly seems a lot more relaxed today, given the symptoms we were both expecting bad news. Next scan is in 6 months.

  • Hi . Good to know your husband has had a clear cystoscopy, but sorry to hear he is suffering with long term effects of radiation. My bladder took a few months to settle down after treatment, but still shows signs of the radio even after few years. In extreme cases of radiation cystitis, your husbands GP should be able to prescribe something to help. Whether the kidney stone is causing some problems, I could not say. Does he have a CNS to talk to for advice? Failing that, his oncologists secretary who could arrange a phone appointment. In the meantime, plenty of water. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Rily thanks for such a quick response. It was his CNS who did the cystoscopy. We've been so lucky to have her from the beginning. We'll see if we get any further info as a follow up.

  • Hi Mo600, my CNS does cystoscopies too. I much prefer her to the docs. If you get a good one it massively improves the overall experience. Hope the radiation damage will heal soon. x

  • Thanks he seems so much happier today understandably. Only up once in the night so perhaps things will settle down now we know what is causing the symptoms.

I really appreciate all the support on this site. It can be difficult as the carer to know when to push and when to stand back. I read all the comments although I don't post very often.
