You warned me but i cannot believe how tired i am x every exertion means i have to sit down and drink loads of water

Just saying for comparison x believe me i am too grateful to complain.

Certainly can't eat the amount of food that i use to lol x the only thing that delights my taste buds is Heinz Sandwich Spread x i eat little and often x half a can of soup fish and a small helping of veg etc

I understand this can last quite a while

Be interesting to hear from others on this. For those that don't know I had my bladder out and it meant a hysterectomy.

  • Hi . Although I had a different treatment to you, I can empathise with the tiredness. I suffered with fatigue following my treatment and know how hard it is to get going. Time is the great healer, so feet up and hopefully you have someone to pamper you. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi Inanna,It is incredibly tiring and you don’t realise how exhausting it is until after the surgery.I wonder if there is much difference in recovery rates between the sexes ? The hysterectomy alone is a big enough op and we have had the bowel surgery and the cystectomy at the same time.It will get better but it’s a slow process.I found the first few weeks the worst.I’m 6 months post surgery and still rest between heavier chores but am improving energy wise.Just rest up and don’t worry about your appetite.I believe it’s normal to go off foods or crave different ones after this operation.Take care, love Jane xxxx

  • Hi Jane

I hope this finds you ok. I hope soon that you will be reunited with your Mum and Partner as soon as these awful times are gone

Yes we sure got the treble whammy op wise didn't we. It's an interesting question you raise about men's recovery times probably about the same.  I had my op on 4 March and in hospital for 10 days. Very early days for me.

  • Hi Inanna,I’m missing John and mum.John will be at home until June at least as he’s vulnerable with the Central Core disease and Ulcerative Colitis.I do feel for you,it’s not fun to feel so exhausted with a patchy appetite. You should be feeling stronger soon.Love Jane xx

  • Inanna, this is absolutely normal.

Aft the same stage as you, after getting up & dressed I'd sit and rest (read or watch TV) for at least an hour. Then maybe think about checking email or making a drink. Another rest before lunch (probably prepared by someone else or something very easy to make). A little nap after lunch, a little walk then rest & so on for the day. An early night & lots of sleep!

Try to have some food to hand to nibble on as well as water to sip to keep fluids going - aim for at least 2 L a day but better in small doses rather than intermittent large drinks.

I kept a kind of diary to note each new achievement like doing a small household chore. Then when you think you're still not getting any better, look back to how you were at the beginning. Of course each time you do a little more, you maybe get a new twinge & still get tired, but you will gradually find you are doing more even though still fatigued.

How are you doing for walking?

  • It is very early days Inanna. Heinz Sandwich spread was my delight as a child. A little of what you fancy does you good. xx

  • Hi Teaswell

    Thank you for your advice

As to water, no problem i am drinking it a lot x i don't drink anything else.  May be the odd cup of tea in a very small cup which i cannot finish. Got food nearby to snack on.

I have been in the garden for a walk but don't get far also i walk round the hall and frontroom in my small flat. The garden is communal so i don't get out there every day and when i do, i wear a mask.

I hope you are keeping well in these trying times
