Chemo washout

Hello Saskia1, sorry to hear about your diagnosis and understand your fears completely. We all felt like that at the start. Just to reassure you, I got my bladder cancer diagnosis in 2017 and here I am trucking along enjoying a happy, fit life. I have my bladder still in place and for past three years have been treated with BCG. But there are many different treatments for bladder cancer depending on the grade and stage of your tumour. After your TURBT this information will become clear and you can discuss your options with the medical team. The TURBT is generally nothing to be scared about (I have now had 4, and after the last two I was able to come home the same day.) I think most people stay in hospital for one night after their first TURBT since sometimes you wake up with a catheter and they like to see the urine running clear before you are discharged. welcome to the group. I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in December 2017 and had my first of two TURBT’S in January 2018. Try not to worry too much I know it is daunting but the procedure is painless and does not take very long. NHS are caring and understanding.You may have to stay in hospital overnight until they flush your bladder through and you can pee and it is clear. Have a rest for a couple of days after the procedure and you will be fine. Once your consultant is given the biopsy results he/she will discuss with you the treatment options. This wonderful group is full of people who have had myriad types of treatment for bladder cancer and will be pleased to offer advice and comfort. Don’t be afraid to ask. Good luck

Welcome to this wonderful forum, someone on here is always close by.  I cannot praise this forum enough and you do pick up a dictionary of medical lingo

Nothing to worry about with a TURBT, like you I was scared but it all went well.

I have opted to have my bladder out and go the stoma route and have called my stoma bag Basil after Basil in Fawlty Towers 

There are other options of course.  Remember we are all rooting for you

I've had recurrent bladder cancer since 2012, & am still rattling around driving everyone crazy here
