Hi,I got back home on Thursday after a 9 day stay in hospital. It wasn't all plain sailing as my bowel stopped working and I ended up with the dreaded ileus and had to have a naso gastric tube fitted due to persistent vomiting.I've adjusted to the stoma quite well though and its bliss not to have the terrible bladder pain.I look pregnant but I'm hopeful the swelling will go down soon. The bowels are all over the place but I'm sure they will settle with time. Not eating a great deal yet but have plenty of things to graze on and build up strength gradually.Having my stents taken out on Monday. My sister has taken some time off work to look after me and I am grateful for her support. Thanks to everyone here who gave me advice and support.Love Jane XX

  • Welcome back Jane!  Gosh you've certainly been through it, I feel embarrassed moaning about a few tiny tumours now.  I can't imagine what the pain must be like, hopefully you'll make a speedy recovery.  Take it easy now xxx

So glad to hear from you though sad that you had a few problems. My husband now has a date of 25 October. Getting very apprehensive so any good comments about your stay would be very helpful. Which consultant carried out your operation please?

Hope you feel much better very soon I xxx

  • Thanks Blanket,I've probably made it sound worse than it was.I'm taking it easy but still trying to walk around to get the bowels working a bit more.Love Jane

  • Hi JennyJJ,My operation was done by Mr Rowe. When they filled me up with gas I was already constipated so apparently I was a sitting duck for getting the bowel complication.Hopefully this won't happen to your husband.I had a few days of feeling ghastly but still got up and dressed and tried to walk up and down the ward. The staff were very good and I can't fault the care.I'm not feeling too bad,a bit weak and wobbly but it is such a big op it will take time to recover.Just to lose the bladder pain and symptoms is fantastic though and I know the abdominal pain will go with time.If your husband can avoid getting constipated before the op then this should help.I had been wondering how your husband got on at his appointment.Best wishes to you both.Jane X

  • Hi Jane, lovely that you are safe home and have your sister to take good care of you. You are through the long surgery, so hopefully it will be upwards all the way now. I reckon gentle walking around the house and garden will help get the digestive system going. What a brave woman you are, taking such a positive view on everything. You deserve plenty of feel-good television (for example Strictly is on tonight :) and expensive chocolate (has proven health benefits). Maybe if it ever stops raining you can take a turn round your garden tomorrow? Sending love xxx

  • Hi . Good to know you have got through it ok, albeit with a few wobbles. Wishing you well with your recovery. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
