Travelling to NewZealand 10th December via Emerates Birmingham Uk . I have letters from stoma nurse etc but should I contact the Airport or the Emerates before hand because of security checks and any advice for the trip would be helpful. We travel via Dubai and Melbourne.
Thanks
David
Sorry no experience to advise, but what a marvellous trip! Sunshine here you come. That's what having this disease taught me. Enjoy life to it's fullest. Love Hx
Hi,
My air travel days are behind me but I did see something the other day about those like us being eligible for extra luggage allowance from Airlines to cover stoma bags etc. The Urostomy Association has something about travel on their website I think plus Hollister have had a couple if articles about packing etc recently. So I'd start with Emirates and see what they will offer. I think sprays for adhesive removal were mentioned as problematic for hand luggage.
Bon voyage and enjoy your trip.
All the best,

Thanks Hero , trust you are wrapped up warm with plenty of logs ready on the moors x
Hi Quarry
We have discussed travel lots in the Stoma Support group if you want to take a look round and ask questions there.
I travel abroad up to 4 times a year and have 2 stomas. You don’t need to contact the airport itself, but you could contact Emirates to ask for extra (free) baggage allowance for your medical supplies. In my experience staff at security are well versed about stomas, and if they need to have a quick look at your bag they will take you to a private room just to lift up your clothes. This is done by a same sex member of staff.
I used to carry a letter from my nurse, but have never once needed to show it to anyone. Best to have it with you just in case though.
Adhesive removal sprays in hand luggage have absolutely not been an issue for me-I carry one in my cabin baggage with any other liquids in a small plastic bag -a 50ml size.
Have a great trip-I loved New Zealand.
