Hi my mum was diagnosed with bladder cancer 4 months ago. So far she has seen 2 urology consultants and the last one we spoke to said it has spread to her urethra and liver. She was told she is not well enough for chemo but they might give her a bit of radio. She has not been put on any medication. Spoke to McMillan who helped me to get her some oramorph from the doctor. I am just wondering if this is the usual treatment after a diagnosis. Thanks

  • Hi and welcome to the community, although sorry to hear of your mum's diagnosis. Has your mum had any surgical procedures at all the remove any tumours from the bladder? This is usually the first step, but whether the spread has complicated things, I cannot say. Chemo can make even the most fit people unwell, so it sounds as if is not suitable for mum. As you probably know, oramorph is generally used for pain relief. Radiotherapy may make her feel tired, but hopefully will help. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

Thank you rily . The only things she has had done is a biopsy on her bladder which found t2 and t3 tumours. She has had more ct scans which showed that its spread and that's all's she has had. Shes getting weaker by the day and it seems like no one cares. Thanks again

  • Hi . Your mum should have been assigned a CNS (Cancer/Clinical nurse specialist) with a contact number. The CNS is usually the best person to call for information. If not, then the next best is the consultant's secretary. I would call to find out what is going on. Best wishes.

  • Dear Lozsam69, it's very regrettable that the staff dealing with your Mum and you have left you feeling this way. However thank goodness you have found this forum. I can vouch for the fact that people on here, me included, care, from the replies, comments and likes I have had over several months. Our hospital isn't great on bedside manner either, some are, some aren't.

May I suggest if you haven't already, that you call the Macmillan helpline for advice? It might help to talk to them. They certainly can offer tips as to how to support your Mum.

    Alll the best, Denby
