Hi all,
saw the oncologist yesterday after a six week programme of BCG treatments “failed”. He informed me that the multidisciplinary meeting had concluded that my bladder should be “re challenged” with further BCG treatments which will recommence some 10 weeks after my July TURBT and biopsy. Has anyone’s BCG treatment failed first time round and succeeded the second time and did you restart with another six treatments or just the three maintainance fills. Fingers crossed it works!
Hi Potter100 . Sorry to hear your treatment did not work as hoped. I have never had the "pleasure" of BCG, so not the best person to reply. Being on here for awhile, I have read posts where a second chance did work, so it can be positive second time around. "re-challenge" the bladder is a good way to put it. Others may be along with their experiences. Hoping all goes well for you. Best wishes.
Hi Potter100, my husbands 6 BCG failed, as in at the 6 week cysto which due to strictures they did as a rigid under GA, there was already a new papilloma, so they TURBT'd it on the spot. After this we were told, 3 equal options, another 6 BCG, try Mitomycin or go straight for bladder removal!!! [my exclamation marks]. Being a] novices not knowing that BCG really does sometimes work let's say progressively, and b] in shock we said Mitomycin. For my husband this has worked well but had I known then from this forum how many folk are doing well on literally dozens of BCG we may well have gone for trying that. So if it's what your team think fair enough. Anyway if it still doesn't work, unless you have any personal medical counter-indications there's always the Mitomycin to try. all the best,
Denby
Hi Potter 100, I just had my second reoccurrence removed. I am 12 doses into the BCG programme. Having seen for myself at the routine flexi i had multiple new growths, I asked about what other treatments might be offered, a CNS told me they sometimes recommend a second course of 6 BCG's. In fact this time MDT told me to carry on with maintenance programme, but like Denby says I see repeat induction BCG and mitomycin as back up armoury. I think it also depends on how well you tolerate the BCG. Best wishes.
