Rigid Cysto ....

Last Thursday, I went first as usual Grin  I had a private room, as there was no other beds so I was told.  They probably just wanted to get me outta the way Flushed When I came round I was like a snarling dog as I felt them pull the tube from my throat.   I couldn't wake up either this time, & I'm usually very lively.   I honestly thought I'd settled into a routine with this thing, but the last thrice I've felt quite ill.  I asked for antibiotics to take home for the UTI that I always get.  After  7 years they finally gave me some & said to take them immediately.  But I think I've still got a UTI.    I've just made an appointment with the nurse for tomorrow as I feel the antibiotics they give don't seem to work any more, & I don't wanna be left hangin' over the weekend.  I told the uro that I felt like my innards had been slashed, he looked quite amused by this.  Honestly it was BRUTAL!!!!  Am I just a wuss?  Thanks I just needed to get that off my chest.  I don't mean to scare anyone as before now I've felt so joyful after the rigid, there's been times when I've had no blood in the urine, or felt the razor blades, so there are good, happy procedures that I've experienced.  Hope everyone's as well as can be expected xxx

PS 2 tumors, although I felt there had been 200 removed.

  • Hi Blanket,Sorry to hear that this cystoscopy has been so bad.I hope they can sort you out with some antibiotics that will help,as you say you don't want to leave things over the weekend if the current pills aren't working.I hope you will soon be feeling more comfortable, best wishes for a speedy recovery.Love Jane X

    Hello Blanket

You are no wuss! Any invasive treatment leaves us feeling bashed up. I have only annual CT scans now but still hate the canula coz it bloody hurts! Sharp scratch my backside!

My GP used to give me pre-emptive antibiotics before my cystos just in case. Might work for you too given how many you've had now.

    Hope you pick up soon.

  • Hello Blanket, glad the procedure is over, you are safe home and the stinkers are removed. You have coped with loads of treatment with such humour and stoicism, you are certainly no wuss! Big hug xx Totally empathise with feeling rough after the op. It sounds like the anaesthetic wasn't at all well managed, you shouldn't feel them take the tube from your throat, and you woke up unusually groggy, I wonder what they did different. Maybe discuss it with your CNS? They can look back at your record so they know what to avoid another time. I think CB is spot on about having a discussion with your GP ref: pre-emptive anti-b's. Anyway it's over and time to nurture yourself. Bring on the fluids and the box-sets say I! Sending love H xx

  • Oooh BLANKET. Sounds as though you had a bit of a rough time of it. The positive is that it is done now. Hope you are feeling better soon. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi blanket, I think it all depends how our body is the day of the op. I have felt dreadful for some time after and then another time as right as rain the next day.

Do you know if the anaesthetic was different? I had one without the anti sickness and took longer to recover. Didn't feel sick just bloody awful. Next Turbt I asked for anti sickness anaesthetic and made huge difference. Why they just didn't stick with the ones before I don't know but they did tell me it didn't have the anti sickness. Maybe it's cheaper lol.

Hope you feel better soon and the biopsy results are positive news.

  • Thanks all  Grin   I went to see the nurse this morning & she gave me a prescription for the same antibiotics that they usually give me, & they're the same as the hospital sent me home with.  She said that because they didn't prescribe Co-amoxiclav (I called 111 last time) I couldn't have that sort.  But the antibiotics she gave me caused diarrhoah, which was no bad thing (soz too much info) as I usually get constipated after the op.  Plus I got bad pins & needles in my fingers & toes, I feel like I've had a dose of chemo actually.   But she said she'd give them to me just in case I get sepsis  Fearful Ah well better than nothing I suppose.

I don't know what happened there but I can only see half of my message Thinking

Oh yes I hate when they say sharp scratch too Crusty.  I really wanna shout ''LIAR!''.  Which brings me on to mention my half a vein, oh yes I have one apparently.  The anae put in the needle & said exactly that.  Anyone?  I know that my veins are collapsed due to chemo but usually they may say they can't get the vein.  So I just had half a needle in my half a vein.  I wanted to insist that it was done properly but feared they could smother me whilst I was under so thought best not say anything.

I did think that they'd given me something different, I've asked before but they insist not.  But that was in the day when I got the same anaesthetist every time.  Although I usually have the sickness thing, & the antibiotic, which I told them didn't work so they said they'd give me more.

My lovely Macmillan Urologist nurse has retired Disappointed  She'll never come again.

Apart from all my moans & groans, I'm feeling much better now thanks to y'aaallll  Grinning  Take care, & thanks again for all of your kind words xxx

  • Don't get us started on 'sharp scratch', my husband has Aspergers and likes people to speak the truth not euphemisms. Also they have immense trouble getting in a canula for the anaesthetic as years of other meds have shrunk his veins appallingly. Every single time we have warned about this at the pre-op [3 different hospital sites so far] and they say they will make a note, that they will need the 'Vein-trace' mini portable ultrasound, to do the job. Every single time he arrives at anaesthetic and they haven't got it and he gets stabbed 3 or 4 times before they admit defeat and get the Vein-trace, drives you mad, as they are wasting precious highly trained staff and theatre time, up to 40 mins one time, whole day  list ran late as they had him first. He was supposed to have contrast dye when he had the CT last year and they gave up and did it without because it went into his arm muscle instead leaving a massive sore bruise...So total understanding and empathy with all of you who have similar issues.

  • Have a restful weekend full of life's small pleasures, chocolate and cake, feel-good tv (Queer Eye on Netflix is pretty cheerful), feet up on sofa) and when you feel back on it, maybe see your GP and ask about better anti-biotics ready for the next time? I'm starting to realise there most likely will be a next time so better to be forearmed I reckon. I'm a bit sick of hearing "sharp scratch" too Slight smile xxx

    Hi Blanket,

Sorry you had such a bad experience this time, as Herothedog said it was probably something different used in the anaesthetic. When I had my last TURBT I felt so ill afterwards and completely different than on previous occasions, in fact readmitted to hospital as I couldn’t stop vomiting. I was told each anaesthetist used a different mix of gases so something to be aware of.

Hope you are back to normal very soon and your biopsy results are positive.

    Luce xx

  • Hi Luce, this time the two anaesthetists told me they had decided not to use gas at all for me. It was a completely different experience. I woke feeling great. I think we have to find confidence and patience to repeat to each anaesthetist what has previously worked for us. Because let's face it us frequent flyers become experts on general anaesthetic! Hope you're doing well Luce x
