Hi I’m looking for advice again. My husband had his second turbt carried out on Wednesday. First one four years ago. He was great a few hours after they removed two tumours. However yesterday when they removed the catheter when he passed urine he was screaming with the pain. He was told by the staff nurse “it doesn’t hurt that much!” He got painkillers to help with the pain. Shortly after I arrived the same thing happened when he passed urine. Eventually a doctor put the catheter back on and sent him for an emergency ct scan. He had infact two holes in his bladder where urine was leaking from. Has anyone else had the same experience. He has been told he will have the catheter in for two weeks return to have another ct scan but because there are two holes he will probably have to keep the catheter in for at least four weeks. He is due to come home tomorrow but is still in a lot of pain and can’t sit up as it’s too painful in his stomach. Is this normal? For now they are more worried about fixing the bladder than the pathology results in two weeks. The chemo from the last time has left the bladder wall very thin. Will discuss treatment when they find out the staging. I am worried about him coming home. X
Hi Roxy. Sorry I can't offer any advice other than the obvious of that he needs to take things very easy for a while. I have been doing searches in the forum to see if there has been anybody else in the same situation, but unfortunately cannot find anything. It sounds as though they are leaving things to heal naturally, but I know how uncomfortable a catheter can be. I can only send my best wishes to you and your husband and hope everything gets better soon. Best wishes.
Thanks yet again Rily. I take it from your reply this doesn’t happen too frequently (thankfully)! Yes they r leaving it to close itself. They seem confident that they can get away without surgery. Suppose I’m glad that it showed up something that can hopefully repair as the thought of having his bladder removed he couldn’t cope with. They are giving him another ct scan tomorrow if the pains still as bad or if not he is getting home with the district nurse coming out. Just hope now the pathology results are good. X
