Hi all,

two weeks ago my dad had turbt to remove a tumour the surgeon told my dad it had grew into the bladder wall - fast forward to today and he had his appointment with his bladder cancer nurse to discuss grade stage etc only they haven’t give him stage/grade they’ve Said he has to have another op so they can double check before they sort out treatment plan as they don’t want to under grade it! Sorry for waffling but has anyone else had/know of similar experiences?

Many thanks

Chelsea

  • That sounds unusual if they already know it's muscle invasive. I would have thought they'd do scans to look. But it is very normal for Ta/T1 G3, which is not muscle invasive - gold standard is to do a second look to check muscle. Then they can be sure what treatment options are available. So it might be surgeon wasn't clear, or his personal preference. I'm sorry it's more waiting, we all want to get on with treatment & the medics never seem in a hurry!

it’s very confusing for us at this time hopefully we will get more information after second op! Fingers crossed

  • A follow up TURBT is common, but as Teasswill says, they would normally be able to give a stage and grade before this. Maybe they are just being cautious. I had a follow up and I also had CT and MRI scans to give them a clearer picture. The follow up is usually a lot less severe than the first as it is usually just to tidy things up. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

We were told that this appointment today was to inform us of stage and grade so dad was a bit annoyed that this wasn’t the case, the waiting is getting to him a little bit! Nothings ever straight forward is it! Thanks for your reply
