So it’s been a year now since my Dad was diagnosed with T1G3 and I’m happy to say that he still has the all clear! Had the most stressful time though lately as the flexi showed up some red patches and some slough/necrotic tissue this time. And there was an unexpected CT scan as well which I believe is normal for his grade. I think it’s a yearly thing but not sure how many years this goes on for. So lots of waiting lately which causes so much anxiety. His rigid was booked in for today and believe it or not but last night he suddenly started to pee blood!! Something he didn’t even do first time round when he got diagnosed. Very worrying. I couldn’t believe it as the CT was clear and the flexi hasn’t actually shown up any tumours so I was feeling positive that the patches they saw on the flexi would just be inflammation like last time until this happened. Thank goodness this happened the night before the rigid otherwise we would have taken weeks to get an appointment and been worrying even more. I am so happy to report that the blood in the urine is due to an infection and that the rigid immediately showed them that the red was inflammation again and nothing dodgy. They’ve also moved him to six month check ups now so no check up till next year. I’m under no illusion that things could be different one day but really happy that they are monitoring so well and that things have gone so well as it’s been a very strange year! There have been many difficult moments such as the two flexis which both led to rigids. It’s a pain he reacts to BCG in such a way that he always seems to need a rigid but it’s such a relief when the result is clear. I hope this gives some people hope that even when things go a bit wrong, there can be a good outcome!

  • Hi . Great to know your Dad seems to be doing well, albeit with a few dodgy moments along the way. These scary moments are sent to keep us on our toes, but it is reassuring that we get monitored regularly. I believe the normal follow up is for five years, but can vary. Best wishes to your family going forward.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Great to hear that your dad's treatment has resulted in this good outcome. Thank you for this positive feedback. It's a very reassuring message that set backs on the way can be overcome. Happy for you and your family Wishingonastar82 xxx

  • Good to hear he's doing well. I think it likely he'll be on lifetime follow up after a high grade diagnosis. Some people do get recurrences that crop up after a long period clear, so it us important to be vigilant.
