Turbt next Monday. UPDATE

I have had a cystoscopy, a CT scan and pre op assessment all within a month. My op is next Monday and am so impressed with the organisation of everything. Most appointments done on phone as admin can't keep up. Letters still in print queue I think.

My consultant said I would be in overnight and come home with a catheter, to be taken out after 2 days by home care nurse, but pre assessment seem to think Im out same day, so really a bit confused.

Is there any norm for these ops or is everyone different

  • Hi . The overnight usually depends on what time you go down and how things go. If you go down early morning, you can be out the same day. If it is late afternoon, they like to keep you in. The appointment time you have been given can be deceptive, as you are not always seen when you go in. I once had a 9am appointment, but did not go in until late afternoon. At the hospital I went to, they gave several people the same time, so just luck of the draw what order you go in. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.

  • Hi,I just wanted to wish you well for your turbt procedure today.Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

  • Thanks all, had my TURBT , my first ever op and have to say it was amazing. Had a canula done then said will just give you a injection and wheel you into theatre, I thought charming didn't really want to see that, but next thing is being told to wake up !!!! I had been done .

Catheter was iffy at first when I got home, as didn't seem to drain well, but as things got more diluted it was fine, so drink lots. Don't think I had chemo, not sure.

  • Hi . God to hear things went smoothly. Take things easy for a few days. They don't always give a chemo wash, and sometimes they do it while you are still under you and don't know about it. It should say on your discharge notes. Bit of a wait now for results, but hopefully it will be good news. Best wishes.

  • Glad it went so well , it's always a blur if you don't have to wait long and are fortunate to be top of the list.

Hopefully you won't have the catheter for too long and it doesn't get uncomfortable too much. Definitely drinking lots is the best way to go to get it removed quick, all the best.
