BBC news: Bladder cancer 'attacked and killed by common cold virus'

Just read this myself, looks promising.

The cold virus infusion appears to work like BCG to attract the immune system to action against the cancer cells. I know some folk have a severe cystitis reaction after long term BCG infusions so perhaps this would be a better way of achieving a similar result? Also BCG is many many treatments, it doesn't indicate if the cold virus would need so many infusions. All research and developments in BC treatment are very welcome! 

This is what I need to hear, on my second BCG treatment I developed Sepsis and was hospitalised for a week. I returned home and a week later I went down with a second Sepsis attack that kept me in hospital for another ten days. I then went for an interview to determine when I would be fit enough to resume the BCG, I had a blood test and an hour later was told I had a sudden drop in my kidney function. I  was once again hospitalised for the fifth time this year, the cause turned out to be the antibiotics they gave me for the Sepsis. So not content with cancer trying to kill me, I have to put up with Sepsis and kidney failure. It feels like I am in a three way Mexican standoff, so far they have all missed but if the cold virus works I will only have the kidneys to worry about. So I got myself a nice little second hand car, I will be visiting all my old friends and family around the country just to show them I am still fit and well, 

Hello Motoman, sorry you have had such a rotten run, but thank goodness they spotted the sepsis quick. Well done ref the road trips, this is definitely time to live life as you please! I hope the medics will help you manage health issues positively so you can enjoy connecting with your friends and family. x

Sounds like you're having a grim time Motoman. I'll be delighted if future BC patients can avoid my experience of chemo, cystectomy, 5 weeks in hospital dealing with leaking ureters, a collapsed bowel, a nasal drain aspirating 5 litres of green goo from my stomach, 7.5 litres of infected pus being drained out of my body cavity, fungal blood infection, a nephrostomy and sepsis.

However, having been the very epitome of modest and abstemious living, I survived!

We need more research funding and fast for non invasive and non toxic treatments to help those queuing up behind us.

I don't regret my choice of RC, but it would be great if a kinder, more effective treatment than BCG could be developed. Hopefully more personalised treatments too i.e. Determining if BCG will help each individual or not.

Hi Motoman, err...silly question, has anyone yet suggested you might do well to get some probiotics [gut friendly bug capsules] to replace what the heavy duty antibiotics will have damaged or destroyed? we really need these  micro-pals, they are responsible for absorption and even manufacture of various vitamins necessary for full good health.

There are warnings if you are considered immuno-compromised and other things, can check on our pack if you want. But if you can take them the better ones can ward off some infections too. Do not be fooled by chirpy ads for yogurt drinks and the like. Reason, your stomach acid is designed to kill most bugs on contact so the supplements need to be in capsules that don't dissolve till further along, where your bile has neutralised the acid.

The ironic thing about this report is that they claim the common cold virus  can treat bladder cancer, yet they have not yet found a cure for the common cold. 

Couldn't believe this when I heard from a friend about this. Amazing they have found that this has any effect and great going forward as I have read about some countries like the US having a shortage of BCG. No shortage of cold virus

A little bit gutted to find this out a few months after my Rc and makes me wonder but by the time they actually bring into mainstream if all the rest of the trials are successful it could have been too late.

If it means others don't have to go the RC route , that's brilliant news and great that the research they are doing is indeed working.

So the next question is what are the catches and what is the rollout time if no undue catches are found? presumably the lucky trial participants will also have to be closely monitored for the future to see if the recurrence profile is similar to that with BCG, less, or more. Otherwise they won't know what monitoring schedule would be advisable for everyone who gets this treatment. Also a thought, as it doesn't work the same for eveyone, can they test it in the lab to see how well it will work for you, and come to that why don't they already do that with the BCG?

Another plus I hope will be less if any of this "gents-sit-down-to-pee-and-bleach-the-toilet" mullarky, as the cold virus is all around and less vicious than TB. Even using bleach once a week raises your risk of getting COPD lung disease by one third, did you know that ? [source, BBC]

No doubt Bigpharma will see the need to 'monetize' the discovery somehow at the expense of our poor battered NHS...
