Hello everyone!
I thought i would provide an update from the mid way scan i have been so anxious about.
my mum has pure SCC stage 3b, T4a, N0, M0
she had her midway scan done last week after 2 round of cis/gem had an oncology appointment yesterday to know the results.
After a lot of chit chat to begin with in the appointment he confirmed that the cancer is responding to chemo!! he is taking my mums case to the MDT this friday to see if they want to do the surgery early or continue with the chemo.
Alot of happy tears were cried last night!
yeah she wants it out, she said no messing about just get it all out. she wants to live a normal life again and go on her cruises. she is 72 and said if it means not weeing again she can happily live with that!
I’ve never regretted losing my bladder it was done to save my life and that was nearly 7 years ago and I’ve stayed cancer free. The problem with Squamous cell is when you get a solid tumour it’s difficult to pass urine and you end up with persistent infections.Fingers crossed the surgery can go ahead soon.Love Jane xx
yeah she has constantly got UTIs and its affecting her, I didnt realise it can cause persistent infections.
thank you for your kind words whilst we have tried to navigate this lengthy journey, just next step is for clear margins!
It’s usually caused by repeated irritation.I had over 30 years of Interstitial cystitis prior to cancer and the damage caused repeated infections and changes to the cells in the bladder wall.14 years of pre cancerous changes led to Squamous cell.My only regret is that they did not remove my bladder before I got cancer it was first mentioned back in 1997.xx
o yeah I know about scc coming from repeated irritation. So they actually think my mums if the African kind as she lived in Nigeria in the 80s for 10 years and it has been sat in her bladder and has just been irritating her bladder slowly over the years
I retained some dye in the bladder that I was allergic to and I think that plus the Interstitial cystitis is what caused mine.Your mum will feel so much better if the bladder can come out xx
That was exactly my reaction. Just get rid. That was two and a half years ago and I live quite happily without a bladder. She’ll still wee of course but in a rather different way but that’s really easy to cope with.
Tell her she will wee again but much more conveniently and easily.
I'm a little older than her and very pleased with how the past 3.5 years have gone.
