Hi, sorry, long post incoming but I really want to find out from others who have been through this, or supported family who have been through this.
My mother in law had a biopsy early June, the results were that she has squamous cell bladder cancer. The only option for her is a radical cystectomy (subject to results of the pre-op assessment etc). I went with her to the appointment when they talked through the operation. The consultant was very clear that at her age (83) she also needed to consider NOT having the operation and to enjoy the time she had left. When pressed on this he said it was months not years.
My MIL made the decision to go ahead with the operation and so she has her assessments/scans etc next week.
However today she has received a letter from the consultant explaining all the risks and complications associated with having the operation should she be fit enough to do so and this has really scared her. She is now considering not having it due to those fears.
I guess I'm not really looking for advice as such as I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to this, and it has to be solely her decision but I just wondered if others have gone through a similar situation. I want to be there to support her whatever she decides to do.
Thank you for listening.
