I just want to first off by saying thank you to everyone in this group, you have provided me with so much support and help these past few months.
My mum has had the results from her pet scan and it was confirmed that her cancer IS NOT in her nodes.
So as it stands she has pure SCC stage 3b t3/t4 N0 M0 as the tumour is pressing against her vagina wall.
however now im confused cause I have read alot about scc and it doesnt work with chemo, but they are giving her chemo first of Cis/Gem as they want the tumour to come away from the vagina wall and get rid of any rogue cells.
when with the oncologist yesterday I did ask and push for why are theu doing chemo first and they said my mums case had been reviewed by the MDT and a team of specialists and they believe that it gives her a better chance. but the worrier in me is just worried that they should be going to surgery straight away.
Gem/cis seems to be the standard approach from what I can tell and looks to be based on research and case outcomes. But you are right to push and ask questions - keep doing that until you and your mum are comfortable!
Its the treatment plan they followed with me; 3 rounds then RC.
Hi,Chemo isn’t as effective in Squamous cell but it’s still given if thought appropriate.Your mum’s team will have discussed her case in depth and decided the best treatment for her.It would be better to kill off any rogue cells prior to surgery rather than risk them circulating and seeding during the operation.Hopefully it won’t be too much longer before the surgery.Love Jane x
thank you! we are all in a more positive place having the nodes clear so hopefully when this is all done my mum and dad can enjoy the rest of their lives together and enjoy their cruises again!
It’s good news that the nodes are clear.I was the same stage and it’s nearly 7 years since diagnosis.Let us know how your mum gets on,sending my very best wishes for her chemo.love Jane xx
