8 weeks since my radical cystoprostatectomy, went to see my consultant today after they had done mdt meeting. At last some excellent news my cancer has gone. No treatment needed, just scans and check ups for the next 5 years. I've been very lucky in them catching it quickly. They are happy with my progress and reiterated that it's not a sprint but a marathon to get full recovery
Very similar to my story. Takes a while for GP’s to think beyond prostate and handing out Tamsulosin.
I’m just over 2 years on from cystoprostectomy, just had the all clear from 2 year scan. Almost 80 now and very fit and active.
Good luck wth the rest of your recovery. Mine was robot assisted which I’m told leads to faster recovery but was back to (new) normal in about 3 months.
Wow,that is a quick recovery.Although I was back to work after 8 months it took over a year to recover really.I was desperately ill at the time of the op though.I had a mixture of robotic/general surgery.I’m glad to read you have done so well.Best wishes Jane
Thanks Jane, I know I’ve been one of the lucky ones and the more stories I read on this forum tthe more I realise this is the case.
There might be a little more to it though. In 2016 I had open heart surgery and the surgeon gave me a target of walking 3 miles a day by the time I went for follow up checks. I made it ,just, which turned out to be 4 months post op. Being retired with time to spare I just continued and now walk for an hour all weathers before lunch each day.I’m a bit slower than I was but having my little fitness regime and a daily routine has been a great help in twice recovering from major surgery.
Brilliant news NellS26. Thank you for letting us know. I read your profile. You have had a very unpleasant set of symptoms which ultimately led to the radical cystoprostatectomy - not much time to think after the flexible cystoscopy at the beginning of 2026!! Best wishes for a smooth path to full recovery. Ray
Thanks Jane, it all happened so quickly I couldn't get my head around it all. My consultant was excellent and my cancer nurses also. I've been very lucky that it was caught so quickly. I just need to find a decent urostomy bag, which I think I have and then I can start to move forward
