Hi. I am 14 years since my bladder was removed and my new best friend was made (my stoma). I have not had any problems until recently when I started to bleed out of my stoma. CT scan didn’t show a reason and am now waiting for a Looposcopy. I am very concerned as all those years ago the first sign of cancer was this same symptom. Has anyone else had this.
Good morning lildix00 and a welcome to the group, although sorry to hear of your new concerns after all this time. I do not have a stoma so not much help, but hopefully someone with experience of a looposcopy will be along to offer some advice. I hope it all works out well for you. Best wishes.
I had a look to see if the Macmillan all forums 'search' function would come up with anything. If you enter the search term "bleeding from stoma" in inverted commas, it returned two posts from someone who may have had something similar 3 years ago. A later post from him indicated that the bleeding stopped after a while. I don't know how to link the thread or posts but try the search method which should take you there.
The internet suggests that bleeding from the skin at the stoma exit to the bag is relatively common. Bleeding from inside the stoma passage is less common. It is advisable to report any bleeding to your GP or stoma nurse so that it can be checked out to be on the safe side. Best wishes. Ray x
I know that the stoma tissue has a tendency to bleeding a little if rubbed during cleaning or if pressed by a waistline but lasy year some time I did wake up one morning to find my night bag was full of red urine. I also found a kidney stone (or possibly stoma stone - apparently that is possible) in my stoma bag - stuck at the side of the opening. When I fished it out it had several sharp edges.
As there was no further bleeding after that during the day, next night or since, I took the view the bleeding was caused by the stone coming out (I'd had several before but this was fairly big and sharper) and that unless there was more blood I would just mention it at next review with Urology and or Oncology.
They were both OK with that (having by then seen the next CT scan which showed no problem). I've since had another 6 monthly CT and it seems OK too.
I have never heard of looposcopy, must look it up.
All the best,

It seems to be a camera inspection but perhaps specialised for investigating stomas.
Before my bladder cancer was diagnosed I had had kidney stones since 2008 or thereabouts. At first they just passed sometimes causing soreness but occasionally got stuck in my left kidney. Renal colic was the result. An evil pain!! As time went on I began to get blood in urine when kidney stones were on the move. A new GP started at our Medical Centre. He began to suspect that there may be more to the haematuria in 2017. The bladder cancer story began. I'm not sure when the crossover occurred. I still have a 5mm stone in my left kidney.
I had never heard of a stoma until actually in a ward. The talkative chap in the bed next to me spoke fondly of his pet cat but kept mentioning his sore stoma. Eventually I twigged. Looposcopy was a new one on me as well, thanks to this thread.
Lildix00, I hope you have a comfortable looposcopy soon so that you know what is causing the bleeding. I hope the results find their way to you reasonably quickly. Which department of the hospital performs the test? Best wishes. Ray
