Hi,
Is anyone aware of BCG treatment encouraging weight loss or is it a happy coincidence. Just had third dose. Between the second and third I've dropped a couple of pounds. I'm not complaining as I do need to drop some weight but wondered if this is relatable to the treatment or just a coincidence.
Incidentally I learned a valuable lesson after the second dose where of coming home and relaxing I built some flat pack furniture and spent most of the day back and forth to the toilet and peeing very painfully. So this week I just came home and chilled which made things much easier. Could be another coincidence I guess time will tell.
It’s my 25 th BCG tomorrow and I have never found any link from BCG to weight loss. My first 20 BCG were totally uneventful with no side effects or reactions at all . The most recent 5 caused some discomfort . I had 15 mitomycin which again caused no reaction , best wishes, John.
I've not heard of anyone losing weight as a consequence of having BCG treatment. My weight has varied more than usual since being diagnosed with BC in 2017 (Radiotherapy + 2 x TURBT followed 2017-2018). I think the variation of + or - 2kg was caused by my mood following the various phases of cancer activity. At some stages I felt anxious and my appetite decreased, at other times I needed cheering up - the biscuits got a hammering (Bourbons or Garibaldi ). Best wishes, Ray.
Hope you are well. Bcg causes a general immune response outside the bladder, that is why a lot of people get flu like symptoms. Your body is working hard so using more energy than usual, therefore unless you eat more or dont move weight loss is innevitable. Unless its excessive I would not worry. I did have flu symptoms and lost a pound or so during induction. Two years, 18 bcg and no recurrance. Tag3 + cis.
Unless the weight loss you have recorded is more than 20% of your previous weight, it is not relevant. Measuring scales can be notoriously inaccurate.
Whilst we all say that stress induces BCG side-effects, I have been doing everything under the sun with high stress like garden work, golf etc. None of it made any difference. I agree, that we should keep away from activity for the first two days after BCG installation.
