Morning. I'm 8 weeks passed BCG 17 and on the verge of going to my GP. The pain discomfort urgency has eventually eased, but feel like I'm going every ten minutes and have no bladder capacity. I've read about oxybutin and other treatments that will relax the bladder muscle.Anyone else had similar? I'm a 52 year old male and feel like one of those cases where people have hiccups for twenty years!
Cheers
Oxybutynin is given to help with bladder spasms not sure it would make any difference to frequency of urination. Something is obviously going on, never had BCG myself so no idea how long symptoms should last, but as I've said several times before while cases can be very similar how people's bodies react can differ greatly.
Hope you can get some answers or advice but have you discussed the issue with your CNS?

I can't recall seeing any posts from others which mention reduced bladder capacity, but discomfort and inconvenient frequency problems do come up often even from non-BCG treatment regimes. I agree with Simon that a discussion with your medical team or GP would be wise. The treatment path can give a bumpy ride as you are discovering. I hope you can soon receive some alleviation from your current problems and that the BCG proves to be effective.
I have a much reduced bladder capacity (260ml) for other reasons. After medium dose radiotherapy in 2017 and two TURBTs in 2018, all to attempt to remove a non-muscle invasive 7cm lesion, my bladder had too much scar tissue to expand normally - it just bled excessively when stretched. To avoid that happening, I've had Foley urethral catheters ever since. Long term in-dwelling catheter usage means that my bladder drains continuously. This has made bleeding events far less frequent (25 last year) but does result in the bladder shrinking and the muscles losing much of their function. Overall, I can't complain as it's now 2026 and seem to be still managing ok on a palliative treatment plan.
I wish you a happy and more comfortable new year with no more hiccups in your treatment . Ray
Thanks, deffo not clearing up in the usual timescale but some papers have shown contracted bladder is a rare side effect of BCG. All a bit over reactive rather than anything long term I expect. Don't usually get these things checked out and view it as part of the journey. Just reached the point where feels like I should. Glad you are bearing up and it's manageable
