Hi everyone, I am wondering if anyone has had experience of cancer starting in the ureta tubes? Basically my mum has been passing visible blood in her urine for 3 weeks, she has more urgent trips to the bathroom, stomach ache and severe tiredness. The Dr gave her 2 different types of strong antibiotics to see if it was a UTI...
They didnt work. Then she has had a ultrasound on her kidneys and a cystcostopy both clear results. Next thing to do is a CT scan with contrast. Her blood results are saying she's positive for epithelial cells too.
She's struggling to pass urine now too.
Any information would be greatly appreciated and best wishes to you.
Hi unicornrider, welcome to the forum , I hope you find us helpful and supportive. I personally dont have experience or any answers to your questions about your mums symptoms, however , if your mum is struggling to pass urine I would say contact the GP or the Urology dept that is caring for her. I hope you get the reassurance, and your mum gets some treatment to alleviate the symptoms. Others on the forum may have experience of this and I am sure someone will be along soon to help you. Take care and best wishes to you

Hi Angela, thank you for asking me, mums still got all same symptoms, they have booked her in for a CT urogram this week.. Am I right in thinking it's a detailed scan of kidneys uretas and bladder? Will update you but I think it's something in the Uretas I have a gut feeling. I was right 4 years ago with her symptoms when she was diagnosed with Stage 3 nasopharyngeal cancer too.
How are you doing?
Bethanie xx
Hi Bethanie, I am doing fine thanks. I know when I have had CT scans ( I have had 3 so far) they used a contrast medium to check lungs bones kidneys and bladder, its very reassuring to know they looked all over. I suppose it will depend on the consultant , it could be kidneys and bladder. I have found the CT radiographers give very little information, but when I have asked they will tell me exactly where they are scanning.
My heart goes out to you and your mum, having been through the nasopharyngeal cancer , this must be causing you some anxiety and worry.I think we all go to the worst case in our heads, I know I have ,and each time I was wrong,my results were good.
Please give your mum my regards ,and let her know we will be here for her too ,if she would find it helpful. The waiting is really hard. sending you love Bethanie x

My CT scan was also with contrast and pelvis to chest and everywhere in between. So like you it was reassuring that it wasn't confined to bladder and kidneys in my case. I would think that they would cover a large area as standard tbh, as it was everything was clear for me bar the bladder obviously.

I also hate autocorrect and hope people can make sense out of my posts when it changes half the words I type.
Hi Simon thank you for your response, just to confirm did you have it in your ureta tubes?
Kind regards
Bethanie
Hi Unicorn Rider,
I had haematuria, last october for two days, following flu. Urine culture showed Klebsiella and the GP put me on antibiotics. I was not happy, because Klebsiella is normally associated with tumour or stones. I referred myself to the hospital emergency department, where they referred me to urology. I had CT Urogram and cystoscopy which showed a 3 cm possible early stage cancer with involvement of lower part of the ureter. I have since had TURBT, where the surgeon removed it all, including the bit in the ureter. I am now going to have a blue light TURBT on 23rd Dec to remove any miniscule bits of the infernal thing.
I understand, they can do ureteroscopy where a camera is inserted into the ureter to visualise it directly. Perhaps, you should ask them if they can do it.
Hi thank you so much for your response and I'm sorry for what you are having to go through. I hope you are all finished for Christmas and recovering ASAP. What does TURBT stand for?
Good idea about the ureteroscopy I will ask mums Dr's or the urologist whoever we see after the ct urogram.
Thanks again
Kind regards
Bethanie x
