Hi
I was wondering if anyone has been in this situation and wouldn’t mind sharing their experience .
My mum (67) has non muscle invasive high grade bladder cancer , she has had 1 TURBT then her 6 weeks initial BCG treatments .
currently at the end of her 3 month break and scan shows more cancer than before , the cancer specialist nurse has said it still appears to be non muscle invasive but she won’t know for sure until after a biopsy . Mum has her 2nd TURBT Booked for next week.
has anyone had experience with this situation … how did it turn out and what further treatment was offered , is it likely to just keep coming back as fast ?
thank you for your help
I think they might offer a choice of cystectomy or more BCG as per the NICE guidelines. There are people here on this forum, who have had cystectomy and are disease free with a good quality of life. I hope it goes of well for your mum. I wish her all the best.
I expect they couldn't be more definite without the feedback re the biopsies. Before they tell you more they will have a multi-disciplinary team meeting when surgeons, oncologists, radiologists etc discuss all their cases and decide the best way forward. They will see lots of cases like your mother's and will have a lot of experience between them. Of course, waiting for the results and feedback is not pleasant but I try to remember that they have our interests at heart.
There are many of us here who are older than your mother and have done well after treatment - have a look at our bios and you will see that bladder cancer is generally treatable whether by drugs or surgery and, as someone else said, although there are no guarantees we have a good quality of life afterwards.
All the best,

We're all familiar with the anxious wait for results and to ge ton with treatment, I felt like a ticking time bomb when I was waiting for my cystectomy. I think we have to trust that if things are really urgent, they will move faster. Cancers don't always grow as fast as we imagine. Hope you can enjoy Christmas while waiting for the next steps.
