Hi my husband has been receiving chemo for 18 weeks for cancer in the bladder and also its spread to the lymph nodes in his groin he has had a PET scan to find out how things have progressed so the outcome is the bladder tumour has got smaller but the cancer has spread, still within the groin and maybe into one of his testicle. The consultant appoiment outcome is they are going to try immunotherapy, just looking for any views regarding this treatment as I had never heard of it? Also they have said if this doesn't work then there is no other treatments to try which is quite daunting!!
I had immunotherapy after my chemo and bladder removal, called Nivolumab. They give it just like chemo into a cannula in your arm. I think there are other types of immunotherapy now.
In my case it was sort of belt and braces because some of the tumour cells were aggressive, rather than last resort, so when I developed peripheral neuropathy (pins and kneedles in feet and hands) we stopped it after 3 months. The oncologist said it left her options if I had a recurrence later.
Nothing to worry about - the idea is to make your own immune system fight against the cancer cells. I wish I'd managed the full course but we hope it made a difference (and it did make my hair curly though that only lasted a year!)
All the best,
