Hi I am normally in the breast cancer section, I have new symptoms that are similar to bladder cancer. Could anyone please tell me what symptoms they have or had x

  • If you have been to Dr with no infection and have blood in pee you should be referred to a hospital for tests to rule out cancer. Insist on a referral as soon as you can.

  • My symptoms were needing to pee urgently and often. Tests found prostate enlarged but benign. Pills to treat enlargement had little effect then I spotted a couple of blood clots rather like small black peppercorns in my urine on just one occasion. Going back to GP resulted in even more tests and referral to hospital. Bladder cancer was confirmed very quickly after that.

  • No very red in my case seemed like almost pure blood but that nothing comparedto the blood I had for 6 to 7 weeks on and off after my first TURBT mind some of them seemed to be pure blood.

  • Hi Gina

just in reply to the doctor visits I had all that no infection found they didn’t seem to want investigate any further and basically guessed at causes thrush inflammation I heard them all until I said no enough is enough now I want a proper look camera scan whatever as I wasn’t sure how they went about it back then when it was going on over the past 18 month I’ve seen people pop into this forum sat where you are now wondering what’s going on some people where found to have a tumour others where not but press them now to investigate properly the thing is they are to quick to dismiss females because of other things ladies have going on and it’s all wrong we all should be referred after one occasion of of blood in the urine it’s not normal and needs to be addressed bladder cancer tends to show symptoms early in a lot of people others maybe not so much and can be difficult to get a diagnosis early in some people it may turn out to be nothing as I said seen people pop into the forum they have the Cystocopy nothing found and they get in with things hopefully that could your outcome but rest assured your amongst good company here should it be needed

  • Without realising it I gradually needed to go to the loo more. Then I had the need to go a few times through the night. This started about 8 months before diagnosis. A couple of times I thought I had cystitis but it went away after a few days. Then came the big bleed, I bled for 7 days when I was on holiday in Thailand, it was alarming but I waited to get home where I was quickly diagnosed. I think I bled so much because I was on blood thinners.

Hope after all you have been through it turns out to be something easily sorted.

  • Hi Gina62,

I had blood the colour of dilute Ribena once, GP found infection, I had antibiotics. Only bled once. Then several months later, 1 episode of Ribena again, no infection found. They were going to ignore it, I insisted on being referred to best local hospital for bladder tests. My mother died of bladder cancer aged 63  (heavy smoker) in 1974. On referral it was 2022 and I was 69.

The CNS was furious when I told him the above. Said women seem to be referred only after 2 episodes, men after 1. And with familial cancer I should have been checked the first time.

I had muscle-invasive bladder cancer (now treated). The only time I had continuous bright red blood was after chemo when the cancer was still growing and we were waiting for the cystectomy. (I was taking v strong blood thinners by then as I had a blood clot that delayed the op while they dissolved it.)

Any time your urine doesn't look normal for you, insist they check you out.

    Good luck,

  • I had obstructive symptoms because the cancer was causing a blockage. It was very hard to pass urine.I felt exhausted, had backache and lost a lot of weight.I was weeks away from being inoperable so was fortunate to get urgent surgery.Jane x
