Bladder cancer AND prostate cancer?

Hi lovely people - my husband has g3 bladder cancer and had his 3rd TURBT operation on Friday.  He's had induction BCG and 3 maintenance courses leading up to this 3rd tumour.  During Friday's operation to remove the latest tumour the surgeon discovered a hard lump in his prostate and he's booked him in for an MRI this Friday.  Is this likely to be cancer too?  The treatments for the two types of cancer seem to be quite different.  Has anyone had any experience of having both cancers and what they might do about it?  Many thanks and heartfelt best wishes to you all.

  • Welcome to the group. I'm female so not my territory, but I believe they can be related or different. I'm fairly sure there are others here who can answer you better. Best wishes.

  • I've had a small tumour removed that was on my prostrate and obviously I've had bladder cancer but other than that no issues so far.

It could either be related or could be entirely seperate and could always be a benign mass of course.

Best to wait until you have some actual answers from scans etc. It would purely be a guess as to what it could be so try not to over think things at the moemnt. If it does turn out to be cancerous at least then you will know what your dealing with and what course of actions need to be taken.

Easier said than done I know, we always fear the worst especially when dealing with something as bad as this.

I do hope it's something benign or something else but you will have more answers hopefully soon, waiting for answers is always the hardest part we all know that.

  • Thank you, Simon!.. Wise words... I shall try to put it to one side until we have MRI etc.. results... crossing fingers!  Very best to you with your own health challenges.

  • Wise words yes but sometimes we are all on the same boat hence why I always say it's easier said than done. But one thing I've learnt is uneccesary worrying doesn't really help, so it's often a waste of time worrying until you have something to worry about. It's human nature but I fight it as hard as I can to not worry until I need to worry now.

  • Hi MaxJ

I had a Radical Cystectomy (bladder removal) carried out just over a year ago. The surgeon removes the prostrate along with the bladder during this operation. During the operation it became apparent that there was a tumour around my prostrate (unknown beforehand). This was found to be a 3+3 (6) on the Gleason scale, which is the lowest grade of prostrate cancer. The surgeon said this was completely unrelated to my bladder cancer & simply a sign that prostrate cancer is so commonplace. He also explained that had this been discovered, given the low grade, would probably never have required treatment, solely monitoring.

I hope treatment for your husband’s bladder cancer goes well.

    Thanks

    Gareth

  • Thank you, Gareth.. that is very interesting and actually reassuring too. I hope you're recovering well from the cystectomy and that all is going well for you now. BW
