Have to. decide Either 3monthly flexi checkups and laser any new tumours. OR. meds in to bladder. Once a week for six weeks. Type of med not mentioned yet.
Any advice please. Thanks
Hi skyblue62 . The meds directly in to the bladder ( intravesical) are usually either BCG or Mitomycin. BCG is an immunotherapy treatment. Mitomycin is a chemo treatment. Both are administered the same way. Both are designed to mop up any rogue cells and help prevent recurrences. There can be various side effects from both. Hopefully others with experiences will be along to share experiences. Best
Mitomycin chemo most likely as said, or possibly BCG, but as for regular checks they don't stop I'm afraid whilst having other treatments. It will be regular checks and then the chemo and a rigid cystoscopy after the treatment has finished. And then back to your 3 month checks.
At least that has been my experience so far. Just had biopsies done after my mitomycin, and also ended up with a catheter for the fire time leaving hospital with it in, 5 to 7 days and cause a urine infection too.
Sorry not trying to put you off but it's a journey and it has lots of ups and downs. But also try to be realistic and give people the good and bad.
Fingers crossed you get some good results from Mitomycin or BCG whoever it might be. I'm still early on in after mine.

Maybe I'm really unlucky but at my first follow up after my first TURBT when getting the results the first thing he aids after it was low grade NMI cancer was I'd be on surveillance for the rest of my life.
Whether then is because I'm also hereditary at risk of bowel cancer on my dad side I don't know.
I hope that one day that can be scaled back if things go well and maybe even at some point not have to go through that every so often. At the konet every 3 months is getting a bit much at times.

I'll also hazard a guess that your username gives a hint as to what area of the country you possibly live in/ or hail from or the team you support. Obviously I could be way off the mark with that as it could just be random or something entirely different.

Hello Skyblue62. I have had 6 instillations of Mitomycin which were painless with no side effects. I also had a course of 15 BCG Instillations. BCG instillations are painless and quickly administered straight into the bladder. Slight discomfort and painful urinating for 24 hours after. Mitomycin and BCG are administered straight into the bladder with a catheter. The procedure takes 5 minutes. You are treated as an outpatient. Good luck whatever treatment you have.

Obviously we're not medics, but if you can tell us your stage & grade of BC, others may be able to relate their experiences of being in the same position. Age, fitness, other health conditions, personal circumstances etc can all play a part in decision making of this sort. Hopefully the medics will have explained the pros & cons, risks & benefits, likely outcome and such like to help you decide. Best wishes.
