Hi All
My mum had her 3rd BCG yesterday.
After her 1st treatment she got flu type Symptoms 2 days later .
now the main issue is tiredness…. She always seems so tired . I called her at 9am this morning and she had been up and out of bed and put some dinner on the slow cooker , she then said she was going back to be for a bit, I have just called her and she was still in bed (3:45pm)
myself and my family have been worried about her mental health recently and I am worried this extreme tiredness is not normal from the BCG therapy and could be more of a mental health symptom.
She has never been the most motivated or pro active person and enjoys sitting and watching T.V but I am really concerned that taking herself to bed all day is not healthy . Am I completely underestimating the fatigue this treatment can cause or could my mum be in need of some encouragement to get up and go. ? I’m just worried she may be using the treatment as a reason to not do anything .
I hope I don’t sound insensitive and of course if her body is tired I want her to rest but I am concerned the tiredness is more than a symptom of the BCG
Thanks for reading my post
Sorry to hear of your mum's woes.
Different people have different reactions to types of treatments, it is quite probable your mum is just one of the unlucky few to suffer fatigue from the BCG treatment. It is listed as a possible side effect.
But if you are worried can you contact her CNS at the hospital for more reassurance or checks?
Hope she is feeling a bit better soon.

Hi Anonymous,
Welcome to this friendly forum but sorry to hear about your mum.
I did have urgency and multiple trips to the loo after each instillation, so had very broken sleep for the first 24 hours or so. So tiring rushing to the loo, bleaching the loo, washing after each wee for the six hour's after voiding.
I'm not sure if your mum is going through this also, but the urgency side effects is quite common with BCG.
Plus of course being diagnosed with cancer and then all the proding, scans, operations, consultations in the first few months is hard going.
Wishing you and your mum all the best.
Trevor
