Hello
my husband has recently been diagnosed with bladder cancer.after finding blood in his urine.
after a Cystoscopy march 2025 which showed a 5mm lesion in a bladder diverticulum.(a pouch attached to the bladder )
A TURBT determined aggressive high grade urothelial cancer with squamous cell differentiation pt1a
Ct clear march lower body and ct clear in May for upper body
He had the Diverticulum removed 6 weeks ago and is recovering from this well.
The histology of the removed diverticulum shows the cancer was actually invasive stage pT3b
The recommendation is a CT scan in three months as he is now on the high risk group.
Can I ask if anyone else is going through this journey with a similar diagnosis with a tumour in the diverticulum?
I am concerned that the CT scan in three months is too long to wait as the last ct scan lower body ct scan was actually March. Therefore if he waits another three months he will have waited from March till October which is actually 7 months .
We were advised BCG was not an option as the cancer was not directly in the bladder therefore this would not be effective. There is also no mention of chemo or radiotherapy treatments for him they don’t seem to be needed either.
I guess I’m trying to understand if we are on the best treatment o plan or if there is something we are missing.
Thank you in advance for any replies.
Hi Stor25 and welcome to this friendly and supportive group. We have had members in the past who have been treated successfully after having a diverticulum involved in the bladder cancer. Waiting for appointments are always anxious times. Has your husband been allocated a special nurse (CNS) who are always the best people to call? You could try calling the radiology dept and explain the situation and maybe they can bring the appointment forward. Best wishes.
Than you very much Rily. My husband has been allocated a CNS nurse so we will give them a call. With regard to chemo and radiotherapy he is not offered any of these treatments so he won’t receive any. I’m guessing he has to wait until a future CT scan if it shows a spread. I had hoped some preventative therapy may have been offered but not in his case.
thank you for the positivity regarding his diagnosis that really helps
kind regards
Hi Stor25,Welcome to the group.I’m wondering whether your husband has not been offered radio or chemo because it is Squamous cell.I was not offered either because I was told they were not very effective for this type of cancer.Hopefully the CNS will be able to advise.I hope you find the group helpful and supportive.Best wishes Jane
