Feeling a little despondent and not sure what happens next. Had mytomycin after first turbt and tumours came back. Have to have a CT scan to check if it in my kidneys but not sure what happens next. I am usually a positive person but all the uncertainty seems to have knocked me for six.
Not sure if they will give me the BCG immunotherapy and does this work?
Hi Maisies Granny .Sorry to hear you have had to have a 3rd TURBT. Once you get your results back you will know better what treatment you may have going forward. If it is BCG, then this treatment does have successful outcomes. Best wishes.
Thank you for your reassurance it certainly helps.
Hi Maisies,
Sorry to hear you had to have a third TURBT.
I believe CT scans are very common when diagnosed with bladder cancer.
Not wishing to tempt fate, but I've been on BCG since early 2023 and touch wood, my last biopsy showed no reoccurrence.
Wishing you all the best.
Trevor
Ho Maisies Granny, after a CT scan it takes several weeks to get the feedback - mine are usually done in 4 to 5 weeks. Then usually the medical team gets together to decide next steps (in my hospital they seem to meet on Fridays). Then you have an appointment when they tell you what they propose.
I my case I had to have my bladder removed as the tumour was into the muscle around the bladder, but I read a lot here from people on BCG who are doing well and completing their course. And of course not everyone who finishes treatment remains on this forum.
They then use CT scans to check everything is still OK. So one gets very used to them. I had 2 years post op being scanned every 3 months and now they do it every 6 months. It's all very straightforward. I even have a standard outfit without metal fastenings so I don't need to get into a gown.
Hope everything goes well and you have your appointment about next steps soon.
All the best,
Latestart
There is no one size fits all I'm afraid every case can be very slightly different. And different doctors and teams don't all work the same either.
I've just had a second unplanned TUBRT at my cystoscopy check under GA and had several tumours removed whilst they were checking, or technically a third if you count the small one that was washed away with water irrigation in January.
I'm in a similar position to you not knowing quite what is going to be the next course of action, but the consultant had the perfect opportunity to install the chemo drug after taking them out but for some reason did not.
And I'm back to waiting til 25th of next month to get results and see what the MDT team decide this all means me what the next steps are.
Generally in my experience it's the airing game that makes it worse and not being able to get full answers right now. But sadly the process needs to be done, the histology and the MDT team to review those findings and then your meeting to discuss it with you.
It isn't easy but know everyone is here to help you for advice or a chat or just to vent in any way they can. The most important takeaway is your not alone on this or the way you feel.
