Concerns over seeding

Hello folks

So, as I have mentioned before, hubbie's bladder was punctured during his TURBT and as such, he did not receive the chemo wash. Catheter has since been removed but literally no follow-up from urology re the wash. Dr appt today and he is going to chase this. I can't understand how my husband was punctured and no follow up chats with regards to the wash or risk of seeding. I'm not medically trained but even I know this is something to be aware of, so why no follow-up....just a four month, run-of-the-mill check up! I appreciate punctures are allegedly rare but I am feeling somewhat cross (I'm being polite). I don't even know what I'm expecting in response. It's late, I'm awake, I'm researching and I'm not happy...sorry folks!

  • Hi, I can understand your concern. The chemo wash is often omitted, for various reasons as in this case of bladder perforation. I'm not sure how important it really is in terms of deterring recurrence. What you are missing is the path report giving stage and grade of tumour removed. This is usually available 2-3 weeks after TURBT - maybe GP will have this, or can advise how to obtain it. This report will inform what treatment (if any) is now needed. If the tumour was low grade, then a 4 month follow up would be appropriate. If GP can't help. I suggest contacting the surgeon (via their secretary) or the hosp PALS department. Best wishes.
