My husband has recently been diagnosed with T2 bladder cancer and we are both finding it overwhelming. Because the tumour was blocking the ureter he had to have have a temporary nephrostomy. He is finding it very uncomfortable and he has twice had an infection where the tube exits. In less than 3 months he has had 6 courses of anti-biotics. He was on 3 courses of anti-biotics before he was diagnosed with cancer. He is still not sure whether this nephrostomy is temporary or whether he will have to have a permanent one fitted.
My husband's radio therapy starts in two weeks time for 20 days (Monday to Friday for 4 weeks). Both the Oncologist and Radiologist have confirmed that the procedure to either remove or replace the nephrostomy can take place during the radio therapy days and there is no need to wait until completed.
I should be really grateful to hear from anyone who has a permanent stent as to whether the permanent stent has any side effects and whether it is as uncomfortable as the temporary one.
Hi FloGlow and a warm welcome to this friendly group. I have not experienced a stent, but had 6 weeks of daily radiotherapy. I tolerated it quite well with no real serious effects, besides increasing fatigue towards the end. This gradually subsided. I hope someone here can help with the stent. Best wishes.
