Good evening
What a whirlwind few weeks!
So, I started chemotherapy on Monday. What a long day, arrived at 8.30 and was shown around the ward. Met my nurse for the day and swiftly connected to a whole plethora of drips. I had taken advice from both here and fight bladder cancer and taken bits to occupy myself. Not, sure I read more than four words of a book, definitely didn't listen to or even turn on the tablet to enable audible. I watched a bit of tv on the large tv in there, made cups of tea for others, visited the bathroom, numerous times!! But, mostly watched in awe how these nurses did not stop, not once, not even for a lunch break. They worked so hard with massive smiles on their faces all day. And it was all day as I left just before 6pm.
I think I have got away with side effects lightly, a little tired yesterday, some super stingy wee today. But actually feel better than I did last week.
I was sent home to self inject for 3 days, I am a wuss, I can't do it. I had to drive to my insulin dependant friend every morning for her to do it. Any top tips to get over this barrier would be great fully received!
I've taken the advice to take the antinausea tablets anyway rather than when needed and have now completed my steroids too. All in all, not too bad a week.
Blood tests tomorrow then treatment 2 on Monday. Here's to another good week!
I hope this helps anyone just starting on the chemotherapy journey, it is a little scary but completely doable.
I hope everyone is OK and enjoying the beautiful sunshine. Take care and thank you for the support as always x
Evening!
Great to hear it went well and you’re finding your way through it! Good you’re tolerating it well and pre empting the sickness
Yes to Lemon Barley - definitely our new friend!
I panicked the other day when I realised I’d finished yet another bottle
Hope you enjoyed the spring weather today too. Xx
Hi Nikink
Thank you for your kind words. I am quite pleased with how I have tolerated this week. I felt pretty rough for the fortnight before so was not expecting to be so well.
I'm just off to stock up on more lemon barley and ice pops, they seem to be my go to at the moment ha ha
Have a lovely day
Michelle
It's good to hear you have got through the first cycle of chemotherapy without too much in the way of side effects, I hope it continues in that way. I had four cycles of Cisplatin and Gemcitabine and the side effects became more marked for me as the treatment progressed. I hope this doesn't happen in your case but don't be surprised if it does.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
