Hi Everyone
First TURBT yesterday. Arrived at 12 noon and was on my way down by 13:10. I elected to have an epidural and sedation. Was nervous about that as I'd expected to be out cold but the anaesthetist convinced me it would be okay and that if I freaked out he'd put me under. Well it was fanatstic, couldn't feel a thing and they let me watch. The NHS team were great and kept me informed all the way through.
Afterwards I had the Mitomycin C for an hour and then back to the ward. Irrigation and wee were good so after a coule of hours I was off home.
No sooner had I got home and the catheter they gave me became blocked, I hung on incase it cleared but it didn't and ended up in A&E for 5 hours. They managed to get things moving without my bladder exploding. Quite bit of pain and I was very sore for a while. Today is a bit better but I've just fitted the leg bag and I'm hoping things kick in. I appears that when I move around some material is being stirred up.
Surgeon said he didn't think it had invaded my bladdder wall but that it was larger than originally measured. Waiting on pathology andhave a face to face meeting in 3 weeks. Catheter out tomorrow.
For those of you that haven't had this yet I'd say it's natural to be worried, but it's over in a flash and just a matter of recovery thereafter. Oh, and one thing that did help was all the lovely support and advice I had from peopl on this thread. In due course I hope to pass some advice on as well.
Rob
Hi Rob. Good to know you are home and things went reasonably smoothly with the exception of the blockage. Take it easy for a few days and make sure you are drinking plenty to keep debris flushed out. Best wishes.
Hi Rob,Good to hear it went well although I’m sorry the catheter got blocked.Even with non cancerous bladder conditions you can pass debris after a TURBT.Hopefully you will feel more comfortable once the catheter comes out.The important thing is to keep up your fluid intake.Best wishes Jane x
Hey Rob, glad it went well but sorry about the catheter blockage!
I have no experience of having catheters in for any length of time but I’m sure someone will be along here soon who can maybe help with suggestions and support for the remainder of the time you have it in if needed.
Hope it’s all resolved and it’s easy going until it’s out tomorrow.
That’s great that the surgeons thoughts were reassuring but that 3 week wait is sooo tough. I’m counting down the days - I was told 4 weeks!
Take care, drink lots to flush that bladder out. Did you get hold of any Robinson’s Barley water..? It’s worked wonders for me.

Glad it went mostly OK sorry to hear of the complications though and hopefully things will get better.
After you face to face you will know more about what you are feeling with so I hope they can give you good news aka not muscle invasive etc.
But you are a sick person for watching it being done I can't even handle a Flexi while awake, I'd absolutely hate to watch them doing it, so it's fully out for me no other way I'm prepared to do it, but I'm squeamish when it comes to stuff being done to me, yet can happily watch operations on others usually.
I do find it amazing how some people enjoy (if that's the right word) having procedures done on them while awake. Kudos to those that can but I can't my anxiety goes into nuclear meltdown mode which of course makes things worse and more painful.
