Hello STC1 here. My radical cystectomy revealed most of my non curable cancer was as per subject header. I have just started GemCis chemo and had first session. Second one missed as I had been in A & E with a chest infection. Due to see consultant next week and start cycle two. I kniw everyone's journey is slightly different but does anyone have the same diagnosis as me and can offer advice on what treatment worked for them and what other tips to follow? Post first session I also got some dexamethasone steroids fir three days and I think they have been playing havoc with my sleep since. Are there any good techniques or medications to get me back to a regular sleep pattern? Thanks for any advice you give me. Regards Stephen
Hi Stephen,I had Squamous cell and had a radical cystectomy in 2019.I had a solid tumour T3b G3 and was only weeks away from being inoperable.I didn’t have chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The surgeon said that this type does not respond to radiotherapy.I’m interested to know when you were told it was non curable, was that after the cystectomy? Steroids do mess with sleep patterns.I have been on them in the past for recurrent Pericarditis.I don’t have any tips as I was on such a short reducing course.Best wishes for your treatment.Jane
Hello Jane, Thanks for this. Jad my radical cystectomy last May and the consultant told me that I was doing very well. He said that if my next scan was clear he would see me in 6 months. Had my scan in November and dye to see consultant 19th December. I hurt my back and asked for telephone conversation, as I expected all clear. Total shock to be told cancer was back. Hospital had a meeting about me the next day and I then advised by phone on 21 December non curable. In the space of 72 hours went from expected all clear to this. Still in a state of shock. Apparently post operative inflammation did not subside so they consider it now as cancer returned. Part if squamous had got to outside of bladder but not considered significant at the time. I am still taking it a day at a time. Inspiring that you are fighting this. Regards Stephen
Hi Stephen,I’m so sorry to hear this.It must be a terrible shock.I’m waiting to hear if mine is in the bones.I hope you get on well with the GemCis.There haven’t been that many people on here with Squamous cell.I had pre cancerous changes for 14 years before cancer so I always knew there was a strong chance I would get it in the end.Best wishes Jane
